Hello,
Scored this today at a Fleamarket for $30. Have not been able to find much info so far. According to the label in the back cover it is a model DC5 which might be named Hastings from 1927/28.
Here are some pics. I would be pleased to receive any relevant info on this radio especialy the types of tubes used, circuit description etc.
This is my first foray into the under 1930 models so have no experience on this type.
Regards.
David

I like the fleur-de-lis pattern on the knobs.

Yes Steve. I am glad also that they are all there and in good condition. Probably not easy ones to find.

Nice find! I love the old battery and early a/c sets. I drove through the Crosley
estate today.

Was this perchance at Lachute? I've been wondering whether they get many old radios on a regular basis. A guy from Ottawa named Crazy Carl was going to setup there last fall and he usually had a variety of economical radios at his former location.

Yes it was Lachute. I try to go at least once during the season. Like everywhere else its usualy just a lot of bric a brac, but once in a while you get something.

Looks somewhat similar to one variant of US Crosley model 5-38. (5 tubes, US$38.00, in 1926) Some issues of the "Bunis Books" have a photo of this radio ... same tuning dials & window trim.

If so, it would have a circuit of 2 stages tuned RF amplification, grid-leak detector and 2 stages off transformer-coupled audio amplification. The schematic diagram for the 5-38 is available online at Nostalgia Air, among other locations.

Tubes most commonly used would be all 01-A's, but could also use all X-99's or WD-12's. Despite the big red warning label, I THINK it would probably be OK to use other tube brands, not just DeForest Crosley ... of course you're on your own with that substitution, so if it blows up, you've been warned!

Morcegao.
Thanks for your informative reply. I had located a schematic for the exact model on Nostalgair but it is almost like a postage stamp with almost zero detail.
I too had to laugh at the dire warning at using tubes other than those by Crosley. They did not mince ther words in those days, even the warranty card is very direct.
30 days with all kinds of conditions and if you don't send the card in "tough luck".
I may have located some decent documentation from "Just Radios" here in Canada but not sure as yet.
Here is a pic of the schematic:
