Just picked up this sad looking radio, only $5.00 so I couldn't resist. It's a small one, only 10x6x4. The small metal tag on front says R.M.S SUPER, paper tag on bottom says "The Simplex Radio Co. U52T
Label inside says for best performance use genuine Philco tubes.
Tube lineup is: 7C6, 7B7, 7A8, 35A5, 35Z3
Need help finding the schematic for this.
Radio is now in my body shop getting it's exterior spruced up, chassis to follow.

That seems kind of unusual, however I would venture a guess this radio was built about the time Philco took over the Simplex manufacturing plant in Sandusky, Ohio.

The chassis certainly looks like pure Philco, but the cabinet does not, at least not to me. But the set appears to be original, and the R.M.S. Super tag is very interesting.

Bill,
Appears to be a good Simplex model number:

Probably can match the schematic with one of these Philcos:

Another number at the bottom of a label, 39-6173, maybe this is a Philco PT39 chassis?

Antique Radio, there should be a special place in Radio Heaven for someone who restores a radio in that condition.
Good luck.

It's amazing how many cabinets that Philco, and it's subsidiaries, fitted that chassis into. I have owned, or own, at least farm battery sets that used that same chassis design (but with battery tubes of course) with different cabinets, two have the same model number.
What I would do, to save yourself a headache, is fix up the cabinet and find a Philco Transitone (PT-39 etc) with a broken cabinet with the same chassis, then swap the dial and pointer from yours to the rust free chassis.
Best Regards
Arran

Hi Arran;

That was my thought too about the chassis, it's worse then I thought when I bought it. The speaker cone is mostly gone and the rust is pretty bad. I really like the cabinet design, I have the old finish stripped and the bad veneer off the top. I have a new peice of walnut venner ready to put on. Now I need to find what chassis I can use and from what models. I think the PT25 also uses the same chassis.

Bill - Any updates and before/after pictures? I'm wondering how this project turned out.
