Here are a few pics of my recently completed RCA 118. The chassis was completed awhile ago but I was unable to work on the cabinet because of the cold weather. Over the last few days I was able to complete it due to the very warm weather here.
I believe that there was a factory fading/feathering of dark toner around the top and bottom but I just don't really like that look even though in this case it may be original. The bracket on the back has been there for awhile and I can't really see any structural problems with the cabinet but I think I am just going to leave it.
Going on memory, the chassis was not one I would recommend for beginners. There were a few pretty complicated resistor/capacitor boards that had to be reworked which required a lot of disassembly.
The radio works really well. Actually it is probably the most sensitive radio I have redone in terms of being able to pull in stations.

A really nice job. IMHO RCA made some of the nicest looking of the radios. I don't know about the accuracy of the metal cross brace on the back but is certainly unattractive. Then again, who will know it's there except you and a couple thousand people on ARF? I really like that radio!

very nice. I pulled mine out and there a few differences. Maybe you can shed some light. My face plate is different and it looks like there is an additional tube on mine on the right hand side. I wish mine had the wood grain that yours has but it doesn't appear to. I have never plugged mine in and it looks like i'm going to very shortly. lol. The plug in seems to be in fine original condition but I know that can be very decieving.
The reason for the difference in the faceplates is because your is a US version and mine is Canadian. That is not an extra tube you have it is an extra electrolytic can. Mine had been removed and bypassed many years ago.

Thanks, I plugged mine in and it lights up and has a nice little hummmm but that is about it. I just got 2 replacement knobs from someone here at the forums. I'm sure i'll be needing some help when it comes to getting this thing to operate again. Yours looks GREAT !!!
