Hi guys, I had a question for you, does the Atwater Kent Model 89 have a pot metal variable condenser and tuning shaft. Basically what I am asking is if the tuning section is made out of pot metal, or has pot metal parts in it? Also is this a common radio, seen often or not? Thanks for your answers.

No pot metal, fairly common. AK made several chassis' that were nearly identical with the exception of the number of tubes. The lowboy cabinets are very, very common. The 89 is an early super-het with a 130KC IF; the low IF plagues the early AK super hets with terrible image problems. Any strong station will be heard at several places on the dial. A short antenna helps a bit.
