Restored this one with my 3 year old. Hate to show it off but pretty proud. Nice to save something beautiful from the trash heap.

Excellent work.
Now to find the elusive dial lamp hood....Don't despair they are out there.
After two years I got word today one is on it's way to me!!!

Great radio.

Did that panel come from Home Depot?
Hopefully you will get to doing the original over, it doesnt look that bad.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm still looking for a lamp hood but no rush; if anyone finds a good repro I'd love to hear about it. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, we tried to balance making it look good but still keeping all the character of the old wood.
Unfortunately the original veneer was not salvageable (the left side of the box had extensive water damage and there was a large section in the upper left hand corner missing. Two of the inlays were missing also. I carefully removed the old veneer and traced it onto some new mahogany veneer I ordered online (local hardware store veneer was too thick) and hand cut some inlay from some wood I had laying around. It would have been nice to keep it entirely original but I don't worry too much about using new parts so long as they're to style.

Hey I for one think you did a really good job! I think that is shown by all the positive comments you received. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing some of your future projects. Let your son know he did a fine job as well! :D
