They say the am works. I don't think I'd pay $50 for it. What do you all think?

Knobs alone would fetch about $25 and parts twice that..BUT together it's a great deal, well worth $50.

Why wouldn't you pay 50 dollars for?? Just curious. Hate the cabinet design?
Small dial? Dealing with the Philco boat caps?

I like Philco, RCA and GE sets based on how well they perform when restored.
But I avoid consoles like the plague :)

Consoles are usually a great bargain if you have the room. Many people have to settle for one they really like and have to forego having a large room with wall-to-wall consoles. That is what keeps the prices down. But if you want big big sound and impressive looks, pick one that you can live with. Unless you are in the resto. business and have the storage space for a slower moving item.

Please don't get me wrong....I like the radio, but I was just wondering if the price was fair. I'm certainly not a reseller, and I love having them in the house.

The 37-640 is in the middle of the line that year. 37-610, 620, 630 are below it and the 650, 660 and 670 are above it. So its a nice radio , and Philco was the best value at the time. Only issue today is you have to deal with the Bakelite Block caps. Otherwise, fantastic deal for a great radio, especially if you dont have to pay shipping.
