I picked this up a few years ago pretty cheap on e-Bay, due to massive cabinet problems:

I'm getting started on it now. It seems to be a very uncommon radio. I think I can get the cabinet spiffed up. The grille cloth is torn, and no replacement is available.

The grille on mine isn't real shiny. I wonder if it is supposed to be a more brushed look, or is is simply in bad shape? Some refer to those as a "chrome grille", but I can't see any evidence that this was chrome. Anyone know?

Peter

Art, thanks for posting the larger photo. How would you describe the finish on the grille? It's clearly not chrome.

Someone may actually know, but it looks like a typical acid-etched finish to me.

I would call it nickel plated.

I own one and remember hearing someone say the grill was made out of aluminum years ago. My grill cloth is not original but otherwise in great condition. Does anyone have one up and running with the timer working? I've heard that the timers are usually burnt out. Mine is untested.

Aluminum? Interesting. My main worry with mine is that I don't want to polish it and make it look completely wrong....but it doesn't look so hot now. Very dull. Art's picture shows that the escutcheon and the grille are fairly similar in color. Mine are way different.

I haven't even looked at the timer enough to get an idea of how it works. At this point, I just want to get the cabinet repaired and refinished. Someone took a knife or other sharp object and cut a big chunk out of the front. The top has a bunch of missing mahogany in the strips, but that is easy to fix.

Mine was workiing when last used but I broke off part of the stem used to set the time. I put it back on the shelf frustrated with my self.

Let me know if you need any more close up pictures.
