If you use the drawers to store your goodies in, you can do like I have done and hot glue one of whatever you have in that drawer to the front of it.

This makes it easy to tell whats in the drawer.

I have my hardware sorted in the drawers and have a 6/32 nut on the 6/32 nut drawer, a washer on the washer drawer, etc.

Also this method works well for components like jacks, plugs, switches, trim pots, etc.

good idea
may I add to it?
I cut off the label of the plastic bag or paper box in which I received the parts and glue that to the bottom of the drawer. That way when it is time to re-order, the part number is right there.

For leaded resistors I would buy a resistor assortment from Digikey because each bag of 100 had a small paper tag with the part number the resistance , the dissipation and the color code. These paper tags got glues to my resistor drawers to save the time needed to make suitable labels.

Pleased be advised I do not know if Digikey still provides the paper labels in their resistor assortments.

I had used stationary store paper stick-on labels for the fronts of the little plastic drawers, but over time they tend to fall off. One of these days I will buy one of those fancy label makers(Brother, etc.) as they seem to stick well to the plastic drawers.

I bought some plastic storage units from Home Depot at a very reasonable cost. I use a 30 draw unit for my capacitors. I typed the values in word, cut them out and attached them to the front of the draws with Scotch Tape. The tape is virtually invisible and it looks as though the values are imprinted on the draws. The tape has never come loose and shows no sign wear.

FYI, for resistors I followed someones suggestion here and I put them in coin envelopes with vales stated and put them in a plastic container in a vertical position. When I need a resistor I just flip through and pick what I need.

If you don't have storage drawers here is how to make your own. I have some cardboard foldable boxes that are at least 40 years old. Some of them are not the best. I have access at times to a lot of really nice cardboard. So I took one of the old boxes I had a drew out a pattern on a piece of plywood. I drew the left side first then moved it over so the bottom would be 4 inches wide. I then drew the right side. I cut it out and now I lay it on a piece of cardboard to trace it on it. I usually put about ten pieces of cardboard together and then drill a couple of holes into each of the openings where the tabs go. I then put a bolt through that and put a washer and nut on the other end. Then I cut out along the line where I drew the pattern on. Then I unbolt and cut the openings of the tabs. I had all the cardboard I wanted, about 10 minutes of free time in the afternoon so I made a bunch. Here is a photo of the pattern and a few I made.

Good idea. And from the pic one can see how it assembles.
Thanks,

Bill
