I was trying to open the link at work. Using my home computer I was able to access the files.

Thanks!

Is anyone still working on scanning the rest of the course?

I am supposed to mail them to another user to finish up scanning and for him to return them to me. But I have not had the extra $10 to ship them. ( Lost my good scanner in a separation. So until then.

The Post Office has a Media Mail rate which is a lot cheaper than regular postal rates. You might consider that if money is tight. It won't go as fast, but it should work for booklets. Tom

Jason,
Thank you for all the hard work that you did so far. I've downloaded and printed and read every page so far. I'm looking forward to, as the other members here for the remaining lessons.

I took that course and here is a photo of the soldering iron that came with it. What a club! Thank you for doing all the work to scan the material. When I opened the downloads and started reading the first volume, Figure 2-3 sent me to the garage to see if I still had the soldering iron. Looks like my sons missed that in "borrowing" my tools.

I'm hosting a bunch of them, just because they're neat to read...

Through the kindness of Jason Reeves, I'll start scanning the rest of the 1958 RCA Course that he started but due to unforeseen circumstances isn't able to work on right now.

Also thanks to David Holder, I'm working on a set from Sprayberry Radio Academy (at the time from Pueblo, Colorado).

I know some of the content is somewhat redundant, but they're all written in a different style and use different teaching methods.

The 1930 RCA Course, I think, is harder to read. Sometime between the '30s and the mid-40's, there's a complete switch in 'written language', or at least the style.

(all references to KM5Z.US are same website as mikeyancey.com)

1948 NRI - http://mikeyancey.com/NRI_Radio_Course.php
1949 NRI - http://mikeyancey.com/NRI_Radio_Servicing.php
1930 RCA - http://mikeyancey.com/RCA_Radio_Course_1930.php
1958 RCA - http://mikeyancey.com/RCA_Radio_TV_Course_1958.php (partial, working on it...)
1945 Sprayberry - http://mikeyancey.com/Sprayberry_Course_1945.php (partial, working on it...)

Too bad the darn Olympics are on... so distracting...

Alrighty - git yer browser's ready...

I've just completed a scan of (almost all of) the Sprayberry Academy of Radio's home study course.

As it says in the intro page:

"This is one of a series of lessons in radio and television for home study, training you to become and ELECTRONICIAN"

This set is from 1945, and bears the original address of the Sprayberry Academy in Pueblo, Colorado, before it moved to Chicago, Illinois.

The originals were lent to me by David Holder. I was unable to scan a couple of 'em due to their being missing or damaged, so anyone who might have Lessons 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, and 33, and 1R1, which is an experiment booklet, please let me know.

http://www.km5z.us/Sprayberry_Course_1945.php

And now, I need to start BACK up on the RCA 1958, which is on GENEROUS loan from REEVES03. (Sounds like a PBS spot: This program brought to you by the generous donation of Exxon...)

Y'all have fun downloading.

Very cool.

That entire course is now online (Thanks to reeves03 for the round-trip the originals took from his house in Florida to mine in Texas - and back). Took a while, but scanning finished over Christmas break. The booklets are a little bigger than the little NRI 'Make Extra Money' books and That entire course is now online (Thanks to reeves03 for the round-trip the originals took from his house in Florida to mine in Texas - and back). 1958 Edition RCA Home Study Course:

Also:
1930 Edition RCA Course - note the change in the whole language, tone and way of writing. Something happens between 1930 and 1945 and the writing in these books becomes less stilted and more casual.

1945 Sprayberry Academy of Radio
http://km5z.us/Sprayberry_Course_1945.php

1949 National Radio Institute - "How To Make Extra Money Servicing Radios".
(Oh, but I'm now very well prepared for a career in 1949...)

1945 NRI Course - different books, I think this was the 'regular' study course, NOT the 'Make Extra Money'

ALL of these are limited by what they don't include: Testing materials! (...they were probably mailed in for a grade by the original students). However, the booklets are very informative, and some of them explain electronic and radio concepts pretty well.

Thanks for doing all that work and sharing. I don't want to sound ungrateful but I do want to report that there is a problem with "study group 5, theory lesson 10". It is malfunctioning.
Thanks again.
