I had a bandswitch wafer erupt in fireworks, and had to remove it from an S-40A and then repair the switch.

It is a little tight to photograph correctly, so I used colored wires each time I removed a connection. I coiled a colored wire around each lead and used the same color wire twisted through the bandswitch connection from which it was removed.

I found that solid copper wire works well. I have 4 pair telephone wire and it is just right, 8 different colors with which to start, and added a few scraps of other colors.

Good idea. I always wondered how I could mark the switch contacts. A set of colored marking pens would work for the wires but don't know about the contacts. Beats masking tape.

It seems to work for you and that is all that really matters. One caveat, especially around the band switch, is to make sure they all get removed before trying to realign it. Those could act as as tiny capacitors in some cases and throw off the tuning if left behind.

I have collected a virtual rainbow of nail polishes over time and use colored dots at complex connections like that. A little corresponding color right at the end of faded cloth covered wires does not really detract from the finished product and serves the dual role of preventing more fraying.

Curmudgeon, thank you for your kind words. Always appreciated.

Holy Smoke, Nick! You are now my photograph guy. Thanks for tuning up the color. Do you charge a fee for this sort of work?

Texmac, thanks for your advice, the radio in this case was already aligned.
