If you have an old /cheap CD or tape player with a bad square cut belt and you don't want to spend a lot of $$ getting new ones and waiting a week for them to come in. I've found that regular rubber O-rings will often fit well and work fine in them. Just bring the old one in to the local hardware or auto parts store and match the diameter and thickness as close as possible. The round O-rings seem to work well in replacing square cut belts and they last a long time, too!

Hope this helps!

I bought a Sony turntable at an estate sale a few weeks ago. It's the model that has a linear tracking tone arm. At random spots during playback the arm would "stick". The belt, while not broken, was stretched. Replacement belts cost $6.95 almost what I paid for the turntable. A 40 cent O-ring from Ace hardware and the turntable is working perfectly.
