I needed to test voltages off the tubes in my SX-100 2nd converter sub-chassis, but I didn't have a tube extender. Also, both tubes are buried within IF transformers, making access difficult.
Use a piece of 6" stranded insulated wire. Strip both ends about 1/2". Cut all the strands, except for two, off one end. Wrap those two around the pin of the tube you need to test a couple of times and twist the ends for a tight fit. Cut off any excess near the pin. Secure the insulated wire to the side of the tube using rubber bands and cover any bare wires with electrical tape. Reinsert your tube and test off the other stripped end. You can reuse the same wire over and over without making a new one. Just be sure you won't short out anything to the tube shield supports around the socket.
Try it, it works in a pinch.
Thanks
------------------
Tom
