I am restoring an Operadio at the present. It has a "B" battery on top of the chassis which is imperative to have in place to "look" good.
I then decided to experiment and see if it was possible to remove original cells from the B battery and install AA batteries. And it is!!
This battery was a relatively small 15 cell type. It is also adaptable to be utilized as a C battery.
I have not tried to see if it operable in the set. I am not to that point. All voltages are right on the mark. One would never know unless you turn the battery over and see where I carefully hot glued the center botton back on.
Hey some guys restuff caps---why not original B and C batteries!
Looks GREAT! I figure with the poor construction/performance of the original carbon cells the alkaline should be superior.
If anyone wants specifics let me know. It is a little time consuming---but I think well worth it. If it proves operable next time I am going to install rechargable cells. It will then last indefinately!
Dave

------------------
A day without sunshine is like---night

Hi Dave,
I've stuffed A-B batteries for my TO's and other portables. I use 6 D Cells (9 Volt) and 10 Transistor (9V) batteries for the 90 volt side and they work great. I solder in the original connector and it looks just like the real thing. I try to open the end of the battery if I can to remove and stuff in the new cells. This setup last for quite a while (I've never kept track of the hours) and I play my TOs for an hour or two at a time.
Mike G.
Mike G
------------------
I never met a Zenith I didn't like!
