Yes, that's a 3 and it looks to be in original condition. The wires below may have been resoldered.

Recently sold 3: https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1923-O ... 7675.l2557

Am I mistaken, or are the brass screws missing from the TA island?

Yeah, they do seem to be missing. That's not a good sign.

There are components in the bottom of the TA, covered with tar to protect from moisture.

If the TA cover is lifted without support it can break the wires to those parts.
Missing screws could allow that to happen in transit. Not good.

You no longer have to wonder about the interior of the TA unit. The transformers are gone.

He added this comment:
I was following some posts on the Radio forum and they pointed out that there are screws missing on the island and sure enough they were right I've got a box of 5/32 brass screws so thats not a problem it looks like at some point a previous owner wanted to make it work and got as far as cleaning out the can. I had one more picture I could post so you can see for yourself. I want whoever buys this to get exactly what they're expecting. I'll do my part and pack it right.

There's another problem with this set.

The TA top is a #3676 Type 4, since it has no A+ and A- terminals in front of the tubes.
But that Type was only available in brown, not green.

All of the other #3676 types had the two A terminals in front.
A green TA would be a Type 1, 2, 3, or 6. Lack of parts mounted to the top indicates 1, 2, or 3.

It appears somebody took a top from another set and put it on this radio.
The #3676 was the most common TA, used on models throughout the breadboard era.

I believe your correct. That's not good news. Acquiring the correct island will certainty add cost on top of whatever this set eventually sells for.

I am pretty sure that the seller is an ARF member, so his listing update makes sense.

The Coupled Circuit Tuner also has a chip missing at one of the mounting holes.

I noticed that the knob on the variometer is only graduated from 50-0. All the ones I have and looking at 100's of oictures I have of AK variometers, all are graduated from 100-0. Has anyone here ever seen an AK knob like this with only 50-0 on the dial covering only 90 degrees instead of the normal 180 degrees of rotation??

Hi Jimmy,

That's interesting. I've never seen such a dial.

But it makes sense, since the adjustment range is only 90 degrees.

And the knob certainly looks the same as other AK knobs of that era.

on edit: spell-checker changed AK to OK. I changed it back to AK.

Well, that was depressing. I was trying to bid on the AK3 in the last few minutes, but ebay wouldn't let my bid go through. I kept trying on 2 different phones and 2 different computers, still couldn't get it to accept my bids. I tried with my local WIFI and without, still nothing. Did anyone else have any problems bidding, or was it just me?
Even now, I try to open up the completed auction and ebay won't let me see it. When I click on it, it say it's not available. All I can tell is that it went for a price below what I was bidding.

Don't take it personally, Jimmy.

Evilpay won't let me see the sale either.

It just puts up a page that says: "Something went wrong. We're sorry."

It looks like the winning bid was $777.67.

The "Something Went Wrong" page is just a glitch, if you hit the advanced search again it usually clears it. If the T/A is fixed the radio may be worth close to what was paid if parted out. I didn't like the looks of it when it was first auctioned, you could tell a monkey had gotten to it.
