The tubes inside all work, neat to see them get warmed up then glow. It powers up though!

"The pre set buttons appear not to be working. "

This radio is an RCA 28X5. I've had a couple of these where the sellers said something to this effect because they were expecting the push buttons to move the dial pointer, but the push button mechanisms turned out to be in perfect working order.

What a small world it is! i bought that very radio for about $55 including shipping. It's shown with two original knobs, but I received it with only one. Someone in the past attempted to take out the chassis by removing the 4 screws that go through the cabinet base. They gave up on removing the chassis (because they missed the other two screws inside the cabinet), but they didn't replace the four base screws. When they boxed it up to ship it to me, they placed it in the box face-up; so the chassis fell backward enough that the knobs popped off. The turkeys only put one of the original knobs into the box. Now I've got to look for 3 knobs, not 2. Anyone know a good source for replacements?

I think those are generic RCA bakelite knobs used in dozens of 1940/41/42/46 models of bakelite and wood radios.

That's odd. The feedback for this particular radio says, "Top notch seller. Offered partial refund for 'missing part' that wasn't missing." So things worked out OK in the end?

Yes, and I was totally at fault. I took the chassis out Friday and started cleaning it up. Saturday, after cleaning the top of the chassis, I turned the chassis over and the second knob fell out. I don't know whether it had been lodged topside in the speaker or something, or somewhere under the chassis. Anyway, all's cool now. Sunday, I bought an RCA 1064 (120892839236) off eBay for $22 with shipping. It looks awful with its homebuilt cabinet; but I think the knobs are same as my RCA 28x5. Hope so.
