Instructographs were made from 1920 till about 1983. Here is a video of a mid 40's version in operation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7J44bDItE4

There were many Instructograph models, but the one pictured I believe uses a 117L7 tube in it. I don't think the 117L7 tube was around before 1940 or so.
