It looks to me like someone literally placed a WR-10A tombstone inside an empty 1920s console cabinet.

Which gets back to the question of, "Why don't people have a clue what they're selling?"

It fits quite well. Easy to see why the seller wouldn't suspect it's the work of Dr. Frankenstein.

I've seen other tombstones mated to small console cabinets like this. I think there was an AK 82 or 84 discussed here about 5 years ago.

But still... As soon as you look in the back, it's kind of obvious that it's a self-contained radio sitting inside another cabinet. I would think the seller would mention that in the ad.

That's kind of interesting. I'm not saying that was made for the WR, but I have a small console cabinet that my Echophone S-5 slips into perfectly, and a few years ago I saw the same cabinet in a June 1931 issue of Radio Retailing in the Merchandise for 1932 column:

(Sorry for the poor image quality; it was taken from a PDF scan of the magazine)

In another issue it said Echophone was selling the consolette cabinets for their midget (cathedral) sets.

That is definitely interesting. I also happen to have an S-5 as well. Wonder how rare the cabinet is.

Well, I've only seen one, but that doesn't mean a half dozen won't show up at the next big meet

I was quite surprised when the collector who had it sold it to me for very few $$$, but that was probably over 30 years ago.
