I built another GI-7B amp - this one for Six Meters. It seems to work pretty well although not putting out the power like the HF amp. That might be due to the smaller power transformer or it could be something I screwed up. :)

Here's a picture of the guts.

This is all self contained and fits into the case from an old Clegg 22er. I think I need a bigger fan and I definely need a bigger meter - this 300ma meter pins when tuning up.

about 20 watts drive gives about 250 watts out. I have yet to test it on the air to see if it passes the W1JR test. Those in New England know what that means. :)

Anyway, it's been a fun project.

Arnie,
How much voltage you running on the plate? That transformer looks like you have enough iron if the voltage is correct.

Hi Jerry. The voltage is about 2000 no load. The transformer is rated at about 400VA, so it probably drops pretty good once I start pulling current. I haven't measured it. I'm kind of limited in my options for a power transformer because anything larger won't fit into the case. I mostly just wanted to see how the tube would perform on 6. I never intended to actually use the amp. So it will likely go on the shelf until I decide to us the guts for some other experiment. I do want to redo the front panel. I got some of that decal making paper so I was going to make up some decals for the tune and load controls as well as labels for the switches. Then it's on to the next project.

So far, I like playing with the tubes - especially since they're fairly cheap.

Yeah, see how far it splatters like his stuff

Id also be interested in an IMD test result as that tube has a pretty poor reputation.

A poor signal on 6M could get you lynched

I gave up on the two meter Sprint the other night. The splatter was the worst I've heard in years.
A few stations had odd order products that went on forever, and they weren't moving my S meter.
