I don't own any pre-war FM radios, though I have a friend who does. I ran across this article, though, and it looked interesting so I am posting the link in case anybody else wants it:

There are some other converters here http://www.somerset.net/arm/fm_only_converters.html including a 'no tube' crystal version like the one in your link, except they explain how and why it works, at least for strong locals.
