Hi, Is there any chance of getting a replacement belt for a Pentron model 9T-3C reel to reel tape recorder? The belt connected to the motor is broken. This looks like some kind of cloth belt.

What is the belt size? Width, thickness of belt, diameter. I have some cloth belts.

I came across this thread while searching for the same belt. I wonder if the author ever found 1. I was told Tilton fabric belts aren't made anymore, but I found some thin rubber ones that do work. The 9T-3C is very liberal in its adjustment range, so you can get something close to work. I found something on VM- Voice of music, communicating with Gary Stork. The take up belt is 5/16 x 12 5/8 and the rewind belt is 5/16 x 17 1/4. If anyone does know of a source for flat fabric belts, please let me know. Thanks
John

Hi, No I did not succeed in getting a belt. I returned the machine to it's owner and I don't know if he still has it.

I looked through my stock of old belts and found the 17 inch fabric one for the Pentron. it was as crispy as Corn Flakes and could be crumbled between two fingers. Probably any that you could find would be in similar condition. It would be highly uneconomical for anyone to produce reproductions. Most of the recorders that used fabric belts were at the lower end, and not very good performers, especially as far as wow and flutter.

You're right Brian about them not being very good performers, but for that time, 1951, I think they were the only performers. I am working on ours now and the wow is bad. I have a new idler wheel coming so hope that will help. The response is only 50 to 8000 hertz, not much for music .But I am making it so we can hear the recordings dad made back in the 50's.
Ken1, yeah, I saw this was a few years old, so i figured there wasn't much hope. Rubber belts will be ok because you caan adjust the slack. the take up belt is rubber.
