After trying unsuccessfully several times and admittedly getting quite frustrated I cranked the volume on a late 80's stereo wondering why on earth I had no volume...low and behold I felt more than a little stupid to discover that the remote volume on the unit was turned way down...my newfound happiness was short lived as the remote is nowhere to be found...so finally the question...after speaking with a less than confident salesman at the usual big name joint...will modern universal remotes work such an old unit? a friend at work speaks highly of the harmony 650 but again unsure if a modern remote will do the trick...any advice will be greatly appreciated. thank you. :)

I doubt it. That model was brought out before the world of universal remotes so they probably won't work with the MPU in the amp. You can try, they are cheap enough. Too bad the original remote is no longer available.
