I found a pair of these speakers, obviously been around the block, they need refinishing, but they seem to work OK without any noticeable distortion. As I am very hard of hearing I am more concerned with how these speakers will sound to visitors and friends that get together with me to enjoy movies and tv in my den. None of my friends are interested in "how loud it can go" but the quality of the sound. Thanks!

If you really want to know, get a couple of kids to listen to 'em. Best under 20, and they can do best with classical selections from known good source generators. Dog would be better, but most of them can't speak.

I can't imagine finding a kid under 20 to listen to anything resembling classical! On a side note about the dog, I remember years ago when I bought my Sargent Pepper Album there were a track or two that really made my dogs ears perk up. I was told later that the Beatles actually recorded a dog whistle on the album, but I can't imagine being able to actually press a supersonic tone in vinyl and having a audio system to actually play it back.

What you gotta do is play the same record or source through something you just built, and something else and ask the kid which one sounds better, or more like what they hear in they're wretched mucic class in middle school where they all play.
The ugliest bass ackwards RIIA preamp I built 10 years ago is still our favorite. Still fire it up once in a while. and through a decent Williamson and some Altec's seems like I was still there. Take my meds before I fire it up though.
