We do not buy or sell items in this site's discussion forums. You can choose an asking price and post them in our Radio Classified forum. On the other hand, you could list them on ebay and let the worldwide marketplace decide their true value.

RepairTech wrote: I respectfully request to disagree. These are not posted in the classified forum and he seems, to me, to be primarily seeking value estimates. I digress.. The Philco tombstone would quickly find a new home in the Classifieds forum. As for a price, it often depends upon model and condition and there are folks better qualified than I to answer that. A few tombstones are quite desired and the rest are simply a good, old wooden radio. I would think that some of the audio equipment should generate the most interest on an "audiophile" forum such as audiokarma.com. In particular, the amplifier and speakers. You can always search for make and model within eBay for "completed listings" to see what has been paid for things in recent past. This is within their advanced search function. Thanks for thinking to recycle it.

For clarification, Greg had offered them for sale in this forum and posted his email address. That part of his post was removed. I think RepairTech was trying to tell Greg to list them in the Classifieds.

I apologize for mis-categorizing my post. I don't care about selling these as much as I need to know the values to help this poor widow out. I appreciate your response mescalero! If anyone has other advise please let me know. Thanks again.

Not sure what any of it is worth.
I do know that JVC 8 track player is a very good unit.
The Marantz cassette player should be a good unit as well.

Agree, shipping would exceed value of these items, except for the old tombstone radio.

Hey guys.. That big silver face receiver is, I believe, a Pioneer SX-1280. Only a few small steps down from what is regarded as the finest Pioneer receiver ever made.. the mighty SX-1980. The SX-1280 is a very fine piece of equipment and if in operational condition will bring a very handsome price. Theres one on that "online auction site" right now. Currently at $735. Hope this helps. Edit: This is in fact an SX-1080. Slightly different but still quite desireable. One on "that site" now with 28 bids currently at $605

I don't believe it is a very good unit. I would stay away from it. Looks like the cheapies that Radio Shack and Lafayette used to sell.

I wouldn't consider the reel to reel cheap without trying it out and if I didn't already have a bigger JVC 8 track player I would be sending a PM about the JVC 8 track player in this thread. Probably uses an AC motor to drive the capstain which IMHO provides better speed regulation and more torque than a dc motor does.

-David If I'm correct, that reel-to-reel was made by Sony for Magnavox.

This kind of question irritates me. Someone is too lazy to google a few model numbers. These models in particular are popular and representative sales are everywhere.
You/she doesn't need to know the value. Just list it on ebay and take what you get. It's all "found" money anyway. It's not like she needs to recoup her 30 year old investment.
You/she should get between 500 and 1000 for all of it.
Take whatever sells to the UPS store or Kinko's and have them pack it. It will be expensive but the buyer is paying.

As you can see, peoples opinions of values can be all over the place, depending on what they collect.
In my eyes only, The Pioneer receiver has some real value as does the Philco tombstone. The Pioneer could bring up to 2 bills or more on ebay or probably $100-$150 on Craigslist. The Philco maybe $100.
The 8 tracks are useless in my opinion but I hated them when they were new. The cassette decks are both nice models but cassette collectors are few and far between. They could be worth $75-$100 to the right person but I see similar quality ones day in and day out for $25 or less. The RTR is a mid grade model and I couldn't fathom a guess to value. I know TEAC, Sony, Pioneer, and especially Revox bring real nice money.
If you could get $500 for the pile, I think you would be doing well but in all honesty that might be a little too optimistic. The Pioneer receiver is the one piece that has real value.

If the rel to reel was made by Sony it more than likely has some value.

I agree with you. If it were local, I'd buy the Pioneer receiver, but there's always the chance it has "issues" that could be expensive to fix. Without knowing the working condition, the price would be more like $75. The cassette decks wouldn't be worth that much except to collectors of those brands. The Marantz, while a high end model, has only 2-heads and would need belts, etc.

AuroraOldRadios wrote: The Marantz, while a high end model, has only 2-heads.... Due to the constrictions of the cassette's design, high end machines like this one that can do real-time tape monitoring have only 2 heads but the record and play head elements are side-by-side mounted within the same physical structure while the erase head is separate. This gives the machine the ability to play the recording immediately after it is recorded similar to a reel-to-reel machine with 3 heads. Dave

If it wasnt for the fact im in Canada and shipping from the States is horrible, id buy the Magnavox Reel to Reel with no problems. I dont understand where you get cheap from, it looks as i said well built and when did Tandy/Radioshack sell Magnavox?
