Hello Everyone!! I came across a Heath Kit W-5M just by itself, I was wondering if anyone knew what model preamp would match this? does anyone have one for sale? or any diagrams or the such for this and the pre amp?

Thank you for your time!!!

Cheers!!!

Chris

I think if you want to keep it Heath, then I believe it's a WA-2P or so....I have one but am not home so I can't be sure of the model number.

I have a complete set:
BC-1A AM Tuner
FM-3A FM Tuner
WA-P2 Pre-Amplifier
W-5M Amplifier
Heathkit Turntable

I have a 1958 Heathkit catalog showing all.

Chris,
You've got the expensive part with the W-5M
The WA-P2 preamps are common on ebay. I think there are always some listed and usually fairly nice ones can go in the $30-$50 range. I would place a "Wanted" ad here on this site. I'm sure there are many of the members here that would sell you one for a decent price. The preamps are very plentiful and common.

Since I've had my set for many years, I really don't want to part with any of it. Mine even have the original boxes and manuals.

Keep in mind it's a mono amp, so to do stereo you would need 2. The WA-P2 is a common preamp for it, but those too are also mono. It would work, but you will end up with 2 volume controls. I got a couple suggestions in the post I just made asking about the ground on these. One option given is the SP2, which to me matches the W5M the best looks wise, but I'm also considering building my own, using the schematic of 2 SP1's together.

This article has more info about the WA-P2:

http://antiqueradio.org/HeathkitWA-P2Preamplifier.htm

As noted, they are fairly common and not expensive (if you're patient).
