I recently picked up another Teac reel to reel deck (X-700R), but that's another topic entirely. However, one of the included reels of tape contains 2 complete, 3 hour Joe Franklin "Memory Lane" radio shows. This show ran on Saturday nights from 8 to 11, for many years on WOR New York. The shows are from October 21, 1978 and November 11, 1978. Joe mentions the date a couple of times in each show, and the dates are handwritten on the tape boxes.

The shows are fascinating not just for the old music they contain, which is a great selection. Whoever recorded these shows simply turned on the recorder and let it run till the tape ran out. So I have the entire broadcast, including network news at the top of each hour, network commercials and "live reads" by Joe for local businesses. Also lots of political ads for various local NY candidates.

The original tapes are in very good condition, and sound very good. They are high quality recordings. I have no idea what kind of recorder was used to create these, but the original tape is Radio Shack Realistic brand.

I was thinking of somehow distributing these to you folks here, but I am unsure how to proceed. I have the tapes converted to digital format. The original .wav files are almost 2 GB each. I have these down to 70 MB each by converting to mono and using variable bit rate .mp3 compression, average 52kbps. These still sound very good. I have no idea if these are still too large for this site, or indeed if anyone is even interested.

So, anyone have any suggestions for how to distribute these? Another site to upload to perhaps? Any interest in these?

Joe was a great guy. He seemed to know everyone. I listened to him on WOR for years. Don't let these get lost. I have a slew of Jean Shepherd on reels going back to the 50's that were taped off the air but I think most may be available on line.
Are you going to sell them or???
