I remember riding around on hot days in the '70s and listening to this great program.

I'm a rock and roller, but I enjoy my father's music too, and do miss the fun and calming influence of that show.

Anybody remember that program?

"It's Make Believe Ballroom time - the hour of sweet romance..."

I used to listen to it in the 1950's on WNEW. It may still be on the air. It was on the air when the article linked below was written in 2002. Hosted by Bill Frisch on Wednesday nights on WSHR- 91.9FM, Lake Ronkonkoma Long Island. You may be able to pick up the station from the Norwalk area. You can read about it here:

I wish! :x WNEW AM N.Y. has been "Bloomberg channel" for years. (all greed-based money talk)

My mom used to listen to Make Believe Ballroom in the 60's when I was a kid. When I got older I loved Al "Jazzbeau" Collins-listened every night.

Now you got me all nostalgic! :(

Yes, and also in the 80's,when I was in high school, a fellow in the Washington DC listening area used the Charlie Barnet 1936 record as the opening theme, and the Glenn Miller record as the closing of the show.

I remember Jazzbeau. He had that wild zooty theme song. Great show.

This is good - I can just get the Long Island station from here If I mess with my "T" antenna.

Will try on Wednesday - thanks.

Never heard of Make Believe Ball Room til today. In the mail today I received a package that had been lost in mail for three years. Inside that package was a letter from my great uncle (90plus years young and still going) with two cd's. On those cd's was a narration by my father of Make Believe Ball Room music spanning from the 30's to the 60's. My father David Curtis passed over 23 years ago and hearing his voice was an emotional moment. I'm guessing he made these CD's for personal use but am not sure. Maybe they were actually part of the program. He was an enigma and there are many things I don't know about him. So I looked up this program. It is obvious Make Believe Ball Room was a big interest in his life to have done this. So thank you for this moment.
