This is an old radio show featuring Bea Benaderet & Gale Gordon. There are several episodes available for free "public domain" download... Don't remember site offhand, but Google will find it...

Kinda "hokey", but funny---if you've seen the old TV series "Green Acres", you'll be surprised how much material came from this radio show ( Jay Sommers was involved with both )...

One episode includes Mr. Grandby listening to a ball-game on a battery powered tube radio as batteries are failing---funny hearing that realistic "pinging" sound as voltage drops...

I put it on CD & listen to it in my car---time & miles sure pass quickly while listening...

Sounds great. Thanks for the tip.

Used to love the old "Green Acres" TV show. Used to rush to get the milking done and the hogs fed so I could watch it.

Will look for the Radio Show.

Dave

Hey Dave---let us know what you think of it...

The TV program is probably my all-time favorite sit-com---got the first three seasons on DVD, but for some reason they didn't complete the series...

You probably know that Bea Benaderet was Kate Bradley on "Petticoat Junction" and also appeared on the Green Acres TV program occasionally...

Hi John

I downloaded a couple of shows to listen to on a long trip I am in the middle of. As you said, kind of hokie but really enjoyed them. Very similar to the TV show.

I thought Eb sounded a lot like Chester, and then I realized it was Chester. Go figure!

I have only found a few episodes, but have not had time to look real hard. Do you know how many seasons it ran?

Dave

Hey Dave,

Glad you liked them---had no idea that Eb was Chester, though voice sounded familiar...

Guess it only ran 13 episodes ( 7-3-50 to 8-21-50 )---not very long... I have six of them---need to find the remaining seven to complete series... I still have dial-up, so have to wait until I visit sister's to download...

Let us know if you find all 13...

John

The fact that Jay Sommers wrote both the (short lived) radio series and the television show 15 years later is pretty interesting.

I've only found six episodes that are available which are probably the same six that you have. I suspect the other other shows are lost, and according to Jerry Haendiges Vintage Radio Logs there are only nine that could be available, and that seems to agree with the two months the show ran in addition to the pilot or audition show:

(Audition Show) 03-30-50: “Granby Quits His Job”

1. 07-03-50 ?? Title Unknown ??

2. 07-10-50 "Granby Plants A Crop"

3. 07-17-50 "Granby Discovers Electricity"

4. 07-24-50 "Fighting The Love Bug"

5. 07-31-50 "Granby Lays An Egg"

6. 08-07-50 ?? Title Unknown ??

7. 08-14-50 ?? Title Unknown ??

8. 08-21-50 "Mr. Granby Breaks Down" (Last Show)

This is an entertaining show and a neat piece of radio/TV history that I might have missed if you hadn't started this thread...... Thanks John!

You're welcome, John...

Yes, I have the same six you have titles for... I found the reference to the radio program on a Green Acres TV show fan site and wasted little time finding out if they were available... And it does make sense that there were probably only nine shows considering the "time-line"...
