I listened to a lot of Gunsmoke radio broadcasts and thought they all had the best sound effects. You could hear the slightest disturbance of a pebble, a dog barking far off in the distance. Those sound men could put you right in scene. Nothing seemed to be canned like so many other shows.

I have been listening to OTR since the mid 1970's and I totally agree with you on the sound effects and production of the Gunsmoke series! Just as on TV only the best was used to create an awesome story for the mind!!!!'''

Gunsmoke also had great writers and actors in addition to the sound effects.
Dragnet was also noted for good SFX. One episode had a scene in a deli. They bought in a meat slicer for authenticity. I'll bet they all got hungry....
