A couple of more Shadow episodes, from ETs.

http://www.mediafire.com/?4y4znp2nmyh

"The Terror At Wolf's Head Knoll" is one of my favorite Shadow episodes. I played it via the SSTRAN on my 9-S-262 for effect

It's not easy to find from ET transfers of the Shadow - a lot of the eps in circulation are multi-generational transfers originally done on substandard equipment, which doesn't help.

As I've said before, I believe it's absolutely wonderful that these recordings are being cleaned up and distributed. However, I haven't had the time to deal with all of these -- there are more programs out there than I have time to listen to for the rest of my life!

I no longer have my transcriptions or turntables -- donated it all to the Sarasota Music Archive years ago. However I still love to collect these programs -- be they in MP3 format or whatever. I've had little time lately to follow this, as business has taken a lot of my time, as have problems with my car (that T-Bird is about to undergo some major restoration!).

There is one program in particular that I would like to obtain more/better copies of, and that's Your Hit Parade. I have the OTRCAT CD, along with a couple more that I've had from elsewhere. If there are any collections out there that have additional programs, I would love to obtain copies.

I think it would be interesting if several of us were to "build collections" of such programs. For example, one would specialize in The Shadow, another Amos 'n Andy, etc. Get a complete list of episodes for these shows, and determine which ones are in circulation and which are yet to be discovered. Together we could build quite a repository!

Surprise!

Your Hit Parade

http://www.mediafire.com/?amam0sa9ayd

One more to follow.

EDIT: here it is
http://www.mediafire.com/?3m3vzxffyzy

Actually, there were supposed to be a bunch of rare and obscure from transcription dubs on this reel. It turned out to be Your Hit Parade instead

Uh, thanks -- I think.

I downloaded the first file, I ended up with a ZIP file. Trying to unzip it, it gave me an error saying there's nothing to unzip.

I tested the original zip file and it works. I'll have to download one from mediafire to see if that works.

I don't know if it's me, or the computer, or what, but I've never managed to get a successful file from Mediafire.

This one said it was 75 megs when downloading, but the "empty" ZIP file it 18 megs.

I tested it out by downloading the zip from mediafire. Even unzipped it - worked fine for me.

Certainly doesn't work here -- tried several times and it refuses. I finally had to erase it.

Oh well, thanks anyway, it was a nice gesture.

ZIP files don't handle incompleteness well. If the file isn't 100% complete, you'll get a message saying it's an invalid file or an empty file, or something similar (depending what unzipping prog you use).

Are you on dialup or highspeed? If you have a slow connection, that may well be your problem. Some sites will give up after a certain length of time, and disconnect you before the download is complete. What browser you use can also have an effect, some handle downloads better than others. You should try using the opera browser (www.******) to download files from mediafire 7 see if that works.

To uploaders: If possible, it's better to use the RAR format, it has much better recovery capabilities, and you can often retrieve at least partial files from a RAR archive, even if it's incomplete.

Edit: See if this link works for you: http://putstuff.putfile.com/96016/5700109 (it's only 1 of the 3 shows from the original file)

Yes, I much prefer .rar and would rather use it. I have the feeling, though that most people here probably don't have winrar, though.

I have DSL.

I erased everything and started over again. Same result.

I give up.

Can you do usenet?

Most of the stuff I post here are repeats of what I posted on usenet.

Actually I already looked for it on usenet and didn't see it. The other programs I've received came from there and worked fine.

Cliff- They don't need winrar (nor the mac or linux versions) to extract the files, nearly all archiving software these days can extract RAR files.

Gary- Did you try the putfile link I posted? If that one works for you, then maybe it'd be better to use putfile instead of mediafire.

A Fibber McGee episode, originally transferred on an old rumbler. Through click/crackle/hiss removal and a notch filter, I think it came out pretty well. Fortunately, this one was fairly easy to get most of the turntable noise out - I've heard a lot worse on old turntables, though.

Okay, so once again, I looked at alt.binaries.sounds.radio.oldtime.highspeed for the Fibber McGee episode, no such luck, it's not there. So . . . *(&($^(&&!! I tried that dastardly mediafire once again. I got it! Hoop de doo, hoop de doo, whooppee!! I got it! I got it! I got it!!

Amazing, for the very first time ever, I dl'ed something from mediafire and actually got it! Fire the cannons, get out the champagne, throw a party, let's celebrate, I actually got a successful download from mediafire. Wow wee!

So I went back to the Hit Parade, crossing my fingers and toes with high hopes. I sat there and babysat the blasted thing for 25 minutes, after it said it would only take about 15. Got about halfway through, locked up, same old same ol same ol crap!!! What a piece of &**$ (deleted) (deleted) (censored) (deleted) (wow, that was a bad one) !!!!

I looked at that other file, it's a rar. Hoo boy, yet another format, with yet another piece of software required to unravel the thing, with yet another 27,000 hours of trial and error, mostly error, to try and figure out how to decipher it.

Do I sound frustrated?

Now I see why those "old, inferior" turntables and high-gen recordings are circulating so much. Okay, so it doesn't sound perfect, but at least I get it.

If you can access usenet, then I'll upload Your Hit Parade to it later today.

Sorry you have all those problems with Mediafire. What browser are you using?

I tested out the download, and it downloaded in c. 5 minutes or less with no problems.

Windows XP, Microsoft Outlook, Verizon DSL.

To be honest, I think the biggest problem is Verizon. I get freezes every so often, and for some reason I don't think Mediafire has any sort of recovery worth a diddly squat.

Have you tried firefox for the internet browser? That's what I was referring to.

I'll try to remember to put the Your Hit Parades on usenet this afternoon.

Actually I've tried Firefox/Mozilla in the past, and have had a terrible time working with numerous websites that I use for business. Internet Explorer works, as does the Verizon browser (which somehow has managed to make itself the default). For e-mail I use Outlook. For the Usenet downloads I use Xnews.
