Forum rules

The following requirements must be followed when advertising personal antique radio / TV / audio / phono items (such as discussed in the forums here) for sale in the classifieds forum::

  • Titles must START with : FS (for sale) or WTB (want to buy) or Trade or Free at the beginning of the title..
  • FS posts must have an "asking" price and offers may be sent by PM. Are you parting something out? ... price each major part (not things like screws and nuts)
  • There must be a location somewhere in the ad or the members profile (City & State or Zip Code are the minimum requirement).
  • Ads are limited to two per day, and may not be bumped sooner than 7 days after the last post to the thread.
  • No outside sales links are allowed other than to pictures of actual items being sold. No links allowed to eBay, Craigslist etc.
  • This is NOT a discussion forum. If you're not buying or supplying or suggesting a relevant solution, don't post - send a Private Message. Comments on pricing will be deleted.
  • First to post to an item for sale stating "I WILL TAKE IT" it is first in line. Subsequent claims will be followed in the order they are posted. Claims to "Take it" can be conditional on unknowns such as shipping costs.
  • Any "PM sent" posts without posting a reason for the PM will be deleted as they are meaningless to anyone else reading the thread.
  • Once a deal is made, edit the title to say so and the thread will be locked

If your thread or post disappears - read the rules again - no warnings or explanations will be given when threads or posts are deleted.

Hello, I'm unfamiliar with antique radios. I want an antique radio for a project I'm doing. My description would be this.

-1930 or 1940 model
-Almost all speaker on the face but with dials on the side
-Wooden Outside

I know I've seen this before and i thought it would be perfect for the project. Could someone tell me what kind of radio that is and where to buy it ASAP> Thank You

Perhaps you can explain what this "project" actually is. If you don't find what you are looking for here you might always try ebay with a search for "vintage radio" or "antique radio". Old radios show up on craigslist too.

Just a thought.

That's a description I'm havering a hard time understanding. Do you literally mean the entire front is nothing but speaker and the dial (knob) and volume knob are on the sides such as this on this Zenith portable radio?

Also I'm curious as to what this project is that you mention.

when you say wooden outside, I assume you mean a wood cabinet? Also when you say dials on the side, do you mean dials on each side of the speaker such as this Emerson L557?

it is more like the top one except i don't think it had lines (grid) in the middle and the outside was like a plain brown wood color

If there is a wood table radio out there with knobs coming out the side like the transistor portables it's got to be really unusual. I'm not saying such a beast doesn't exist, but I've never seen that configuration.

Emerson example with knobs on side (though dial is on front):

Much later than '39-'40 though.

Thanks for the link to the radio website I found one almost identical. I like this one. It is a Blaupunkt Sultan 2623 model. http://www.radioattic.com/item.htm?radio=0380222

That basic design was used on oodles of German sets. Take a look at various sets from Grundig, Nordemende, Telefunken, Kuba and a number of others. That exact grille pattern is somewhat unique.

pretty cool radios especially the homemade side tuner jobby and the RCA. I have found tons of photos of radios that I have on the net. Attic is one of the sites. many more. google 'tube radios' 'antique radios' 'old radios' 'transistor radios'. seems like all the European radios look alike although these have the knobs on the front
