Akai, Teac, Pioneer...makes no difference to me as long as it looks decent, plays well and the price is right...in other words: No junk. There's bunches of R2R players available on e-pay, and I have my eye on two auctions that will soon end, but thought I'd check here first.

Are you looking for a deck, to be used with external amp and speakers, or a recorder, with its own amp and speakers?

John, eBay is the place to buy them. I just bought a second Akai on there last night. You won't go wrong with a direct drive Akai.

I've got a Pioneer RT-1011L that I've owned since ~1976 (bought it new). Last time I used it I noticed the tape counter wasn't working and it's likely the belt is bad. This deck uses the 10" reels or you can use the smaller 7" reels. I've also probably got about another 8 or so 10" reels of tape.
