Forum rules

The following requirements must be followed when advertising personal antique radio / TV / audio / phono items (such as discussed in the forums here) for sale in the classifieds forum::

  • Titles must START with : FS (for sale) or WTB (want to buy) or Trade or Free at the beginning of the title..
  • FS posts must have an "asking" price and offers may be sent by PM. Are you parting something out? ... price each major part (not things like screws and nuts)
  • There must be a location somewhere in the ad or the members profile (City & State or Zip Code are the minimum requirement).
  • Ads are limited to two per day, and may not be bumped sooner than 7 days after the last post to the thread.
  • No outside sales links are allowed other than to pictures of actual items being sold. No links allowed to eBay, Craigslist etc.
  • This is NOT a discussion forum. If you're not buying or supplying or suggesting a relevant solution, don't post - send a Private Message. Comments on pricing will be deleted.
  • First to post to an item for sale stating "I WILL TAKE IT" it is first in line. Subsequent claims will be followed in the order they are posted. Claims to "Take it" can be conditional on unknowns such as shipping costs.
  • Any "PM sent" posts without posting a reason for the PM will be deleted as they are meaningless to anyone else reading the thread.
  • Once a deal is made, edit the title to say so and the thread will be locked

If your thread or post disappears - read the rules again - no warnings or explanations will be given when threads or posts are deleted.

Hi. I dumpster dived a Slivertone 4789. About five minuets in front of the trash man!

The guts work... in as much, they power when I turn them on. It needs major work. My bed room seems to have taken on a late 1930's look, so this will be my show piece. I really dont ever see this radio being "functional." But I want to give it a new functional life. The cabinet, is 100% sound, and reflects very little "badness" for its age. aside from some scratched finish, a heart scratched into the wood, with "rob." (wounder who Rob was?) :D

I am looking for the trim for the ban/ station indicator bar. That I assume said, "Silvertone." And any other brassy bits, that might need to go with this. http://ithypno.deviantart.com/. <-- link to pictures of it they are right on the front page. Please, tell me what else I might need. :?:

My over all goal, is to mod it, into a computer. HOWEVER, I am going to work around what I have. I am not going to make new holes, or mar any of the case.
I plan on refinishing the old wooden case, to look 1930's showroom finish perfect. Any insights or help will be very welcome! This is but a second summer project, after building a "vintage" gun rack!

Welcome to the forum, this page has your dial, about have way down the page,http://sfhobbies.com/sfhobbies/radio/dials.jsp. I have the same set, and am looking for the bezel also. The problem is the type of plastic that they are made of, distorts and disintegrates, which is probably why yours is missing. So, you can make one that is to your liking. The electronics may be of interest to myself, and others.

Let use know which way you go with this,David

Thank you for your response and welcome.

I Am going to keep the Guts... in the radio... but I will not have it functional. Is it a bear of a process, to remove the station (brass station band) plate, from the guts? I want to full the hole.. make it look functional- IE retro mod. They have so many old radio cases for computers pre made... but I want to make my own.

I am going to rework the electrical to work off a standard computer power supply. I am going to mount it all in place, like it was in 1937. But, I am going to use modern white Leds. - Wrap them in yellow tone plastic paper, to get the yellow (old look) glow. (since LED do not get hot, it wont met). I might even have a light paint wash of yellow paint.

Also, Was there a light at the top of the unit as well, there looks like there was is bulb holder that fits above the station guide plate. I little "U" shaped metal holder-thing?

Also, what dial were you directing me to? As for the faceplate... My goal is to use metal die cutting to make my own... Also, could someone direct me to a Slivertone logo, of the 1930's? I have access to a 3D computerized lathe.. I just have to provide the graphic I want to use. Maybe stylize something in photoshop to lathe.

I think you can unbolt the scale from the chassis.

That "divot" or hole is for the tuning eye tube, switch slides into the bracket from the rear

If you scroll down the page, you will see 3 sets with eye tubes in the dials, your is the one on the left.
