I need 2 screws that go on top of the shafts for adjusting height of headgear in Federal Headphones.
They stop the shaft slider from coming of the top.
I went to nuts and bolts place in town and they said they did not know what thread that was; it was so small, so
I am thinking these screws might be just for this fit??????
So I am hoping someone has a parts set of headphones.

Thanks, Ray

Looks like a #4-40 x 1/4" slotted pan head.
Diameter of the threaded part should be 0.112".
Diameter of the head should be 0.219".

These are about $1.50 per 100 at McMaster-Carr.
Very standard part, but smaller than stocked at most hardware stores.

PM me your address and I'll send you a couple. They won't be slotted, and not pan head, but
they'll work until you get the right ones. They'll also serve to confirm the 40TPI thread.

I brought the correct screw to a place that is what they specialize in, nuts and bolts, and they said it was an odd size, but did not know what size.
I took a screw of a Brande's head set, and it started to screw in but then it stopped.

thanks

4-36 threads used to turn up in some mechanical equipment. Sorry, I don't have a source.

#4-36 is a standard thread.

McMaster-Carr carries them.

If you know what you need, why are you asking ?

Reliable Hardware says they do not know what size thread it is; they say it must be a odd one.

How do they know?
Did you send them one to measure?

Considering they said #4-36 is not a standard size, when in fact it is...
I would question any analysis they might provide.

I took one down there, and it did not screw in their measuring tool.
Are you sure it is a 4-36?

No, I'm not.

I was commenting on their assertion that #4-36 was not a standard thread.
It is standard, but less common than #4-40.

And of course I'm __assuming__ that it's an English thread, not Metric.

Thanks Leigh
I am a collector; I do not no much about anything.
I guess I was dreaming and hoped someone had a old set of Federal headphones around that were trashed
and I could get the screws from it..
This place I went to has been in business longer then I been alive I think. I am just going by what they said.

I just went to Fastenal and they said it is a #4-40.
They did not have any so they ordered me 5 of them.
I will post again when I know for sure they are the right ones.
