It looks like one of the EM80 series of tubes, could be an EM87?

Is that a General Electric logo marked on the tube?

I stated that it can not be a EM 80 as i have one of these and the construction is not even close. it does have a GE logo on it and under that VS1 LOD. If that means anything Stan Ski

From the construction, most likely an EM84, or EM87. http://www.akh.se/tubes/eyes.htmhttp://www.magiceyetubes.com/patterns.htmCould also be an EM800, EM802, or EM803. But if its one of these, you've got yourself one pricey tube. I'm putting my money on EM84/6FG6.

Here's A picture of the back side of an EM 84. As you can see there is a difference to the the unknown one. Also would like to know how to test these on my Precision. Have no reading at all on my Hickok. Stan Ski

Hey Stan, If you go here http://oldradios.50webs.com/precision/ and download the "non US" tube data, you'll have it. A while back there was a thread on using an LED flashlight to illuminate the tube number that had faded. I've used it with great success. It works best with other lighting turned off. The flashlight is either a 5 or 6 diode type but I've gotten a single diode one to do the job also. Bob

Those can just be structural differences between different manufacturers. Both appear to have sideways oriented triode structures. The GE with a matte dark grey plate, and the Telefunken with a shiny silvery plate. Does the known EM84 (6FG6) test okay on you tube tester ?

Here are pix of one of my EM84's. This one has no writing or logo on it, and while I do not have a tube tester I did set up a test circuit and verified that the eye closed at neg 22 Volts, the same as my other EM84 which is marked and made by Mullard Attachment:

That tube was made by Philips. I looked up the Philips type codes and your VS1 is an EM84 6FG6 http://www.triodeel.com/images/philipstubecodes.pdf. The LOD indicates it was made in the Philips Mazda plant in Brussels Belgium. Frank ps. VS stands for EM84, the 1 following it , is the change code for different versions. L is the plant, 0 the year, could be 1960 and D is April.
