I found this in a 1941 Westinghouse I'm restoring and I was wondering, was this just a replacement for the paper/wax caps or is it some kind of mica capacitor?

If the 220 is picofarads, then I'll guess that it is mica---where is it in the circuit?

Could be anything, even a 220 ohm resistor. Couldn't possibly hurt to sub a new 220 pfd silver mica rated at 500 volts.
Schematic needed. We're not magicians.

It's a mica capacitor, made by RCA; they made most of the early-40s Westinghouse sets. If you post the model number, we can find it on the schematic.

I had a mentor who called them cough drops. They do have a lozenge shape.

I re-capped this radio about a year ago (it was my first tube radio), and I later found out that I replaced this capacitor with the wrong value. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't an unreliable type and that I can safely put it back in. I put it back in this weekend and the radio sounds much better now that the right value capacitor is in the right place. (All the other caps are new).
