Can someone verify the value of this bumblebee for me (both in the photo are the same)? I see Brown, Gray, Orange, Gray, Blue. So, that would be 18,000pf, the blue band should be 600V, but what would the second gray band indicate...should be tolerance, but I don't see a tolerance value for gray??? Am I reading this wrong? Thanks in advance.

Or could the gray be black? 10,000 pf, +/- 20% @ 600V.

I read it as .015 with the gray being green.

What does the schematic say?

Looks like a grayish black to me, making both caps .01/20% at 600V. Of course the proper color is "gone". :)

...another vote for .01µF 600V here...that black on black doesn't work so well...

I say it is a .01/600v cap. Harry

Agreed.

A LED flashlight often works wonders in vivifying color bands on resistors, caps etc. It might not work in this particular case, but then again, it may. Worth a trial.

Thanks for the replies guys, after locating the schematic, it is .01 uf @600V.

Well I assume you are gonna either figure out how to stuff a bumblebee or replace it? I have dug a bunch of unused ones out of my junk boxes around here lately and they all leak, some not a great deal, but some pretty badly for a tube circuit usage. I keep finding old vintage caps that are neat looking but are just junk now. I do have some Black Cats that all measure right for value and no noticeable leakage. As for bumblebee values, among others, if confused I just put them on the cap checker and then know for sure what they are.

Will be replacing, definitely. Have no interest in restuffing one of these little gems!

They use the coding that most newer caps use.... 103= .01uF.....104= .1uF ..... 224= .22uF and so on. The last band is the Voltage ....Blue is 600V. The middle black band in the value is slightly "off black" to contrast the body color.

I just had my first encounter with bumble bees. I opted for tracing the cap on the schematic and working with the value listed.

Yes, that's what I did and the cap value and the schematic value matched.
