I took a back from a Coronado radio to my son's best friend who is a graphics designer and he said that's no problem! He said the problem is finding the most correct looking material. He also is interested in doing radio backs but, of course he has no patterns. A couple of years ago, he made some shim gaskets for an AK speaker I restored and they fit perfectly. I watched him draw the diagram and then cut them out on his laser cutter. What an operation!! Denis

Do You think he would do the Veneer Designs I have posted in Link Page 1 ??
I have the material.

This is exactly what I was referring to in my several posts above, where I stated that the most valuable asset of Retro-Tronics is their inventory of patterns (all referenced to specific radio models), not their actual equipment used to cut the radio backs.

FWIK the laser cutter is a X Y servo driven. Z axis being turning the laser on/off. So the patterns are all software files. The software could be written in a proprietary format by the laser cutter manufacturer or not. If the files are generic or compatible then cost to buy a broken cutter and shipping is moot. Just the files.

I would think that an inventory of back designs could be amassed in a few months... This gentleman as a graphics designer, could advance the quality of the backs and perhaps provide them screen printed too.

The odds are that Dan would make some kind of deal on the patterns if he intends to leave the business permanently. They have no value unless made available.

I suspect the cutter would use some standard CAD format like a STEP file.

Dan's website now says he will reopen the business "Sometime in early Fall"

Has anyone heard what's going on?

It's looking up for the return of Retro-Tronics.

Their original website is gone and is replaced with this:

Watch this space for the new Retro-Tronics coming fall 2017!

So, something is happening.

I don't think so, the email link that used to be on their web site was never answered and now, none is listed.

I guess we wait.

Watch this space for the new Retro-Tronics coming fall 2017!

This is all that appears now on the site.

I did hear from Dan on 10/17/2017 via e-mail
I had some dealings with Dan a fine gentleman

My e-mail to him was inquire if he would be making Ozarka Veneer work for me soon

He forwarded my request to another person
Dan said I should be contacted by them soon

Looks like Business going to another restorer.

It looks like the Retro Tronics site is working again but there's no radio backs listed. There's a note on the site stating to be patient, they're still working on the site.
