Today I received a nice note of thanks mailed to me at the shop.
It's not often people extend themselves "after the sale" with a note.
But this nice older woman named Angela sent me some photos along with the note.
She's a doll, and is full of life for her age, I'm impressed by her wittiness and humor.
Her Zenith 6-S-254 is now back home, and playing fine.

I had something sort of like that happen a few years ago when I was doing some old radio repair part time. An older fellow brought back the record player I had repaired a year or so before. I wasn't there when he came in.

When I looked at it was obvious that the only problem was a big ball of dust under the cartridge that kept the needle from tracking. I cleaned it and put it back out with a no charge tag.

When I came back a couple of days later, there was an envelope left by the old guy. It has a nice note saying how happy he was to have his record player back. There were two twenties enclosed.

Matt, glad that you had that experience. As you say it's not common. And from the photo it looks like a beautiful job too. Did you have to refinish the cabinet also or just go through the chassis?

Very cool, it's amazing how just a note can make someones day, something as simple as that. Glad she's happy! That's what it's all about, right, making people happy? :D
That's a beautiful radio. Just like the one I just got, only the finish is nicer. Is it a good performer for a 6 tuber with a 10" speaker? Just curious.
Thanks for sharing.

Dave, I just touched up the cabinet with some Old English for dark wood for the scratches and some lemon oil to buff and moisturize the veneer.
I also added a polarized plug/cord and internal fuse, as I usually do.
A new piece of grille cloth and........ voila. Done. She loves it.
The set was pretty grimy when she brought it in, in March..... I just got to it 2 weeks ago (backlogged/swamped)

Picker: Yes, it is a decent performer.
Add a .047u/1600v from the ground side of the line cord to chassis, then staple a wire around the whole inside, as an antenna. - should pull in plenty of AM stations.

Nice job! A note like that would make my day. I have the same model and yes, they are excellent performers.

Nice job on that old Zenith.
A customer recently sent me a thank you note, and a very nice key ring shaped like an early Victor phonograph. It is always nice when somebody does a little extra to show their appreciation.

Of course the under-chassis was completely gone over professionally....properly aligned as well.
And my velvet-touch nylon tuning belt modification as well...
And a new volume control/switch...
And...
And...

Looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing the correspondence. Selling 78's online I'll get, periodically, a thank you for great packaging and a short story on why the particular record is important to them. Always great to know how you can brighten someones life with the talents that you possess.
