Okay, I've re-read the thread and I think I'm back up to speed as to where we left off, which was trying to identify the minute pulse relay and its terminals, with the Lathem master programmed to secondary selection code 17.

I've had a closer look at that wiring diagram inside the cover of the master unit and below I've annotated a snapshot of your video showing what I think is the relay that they call SK1, that is, the relay that pulses each minute:.

I've also highlighted what I think are SK1's associated terminals (I call them T1 and T2).

Now if you place your finger on what I believe is SK1, then you should feel the pulse when it occurs.

If I'm right, then placing an analog multimeter, set to the ohms x 1 range, across T1 and T2 as annotated in white should show movement when the pulse is heard.

So, give those two things a try and let us know how you go.

*** Be very, very careful to stay well clear of the area that I have circled as DANGER! as that is mains voltage and is lethal. It is very poor design indeed to place uncovered mains voltage terminals next to low voltage terminals like that.

Thank you I will look into that. for some strange reason I thought the fourm would tell me when someone replys to my message I was wrong :( Sorry.

ok you wanted me to see if I can feel a pulse on the master clock. I can (when it clicks)
Also after getting my Dads meter I am able to get a reading when I hear the pulse. YAY! there is life in the clock.

Now to just find out were I get the 24V from?...

Thanks for the help!

Progress!

So, just to confirm for me, you are seeing a pulse on your meter when you have the probes across what I have labeled in the photo as T1 and T2, and the relay that you can see and feel pulsing is what I have labeled as SK1?

It works ?! Great!

So, I guess you've found 24v DC on that power supply and figured out how to wire it, with correct polarity, through T1 and T2 to terminals M and C on the AR-3 clock?

I am keenly awaiting that video.

I was about to move onto the reset function that, according to the Latham manual, should kick in at the 58 minute mark each hour, and should be implemented by relay SK2 via terminals T3 and T4 as I have labeled them in the picture below:

The manual says that at the 58th minute a pulse from 50 seconds to 00 seconds will be required to advance [the minute hand] to the 59th minute. So, if you advance the master clock's time to say 57 minutes to the hour, then when the 58th minute is reached relay SK2 should start pulsing and an ohmmeter across terminals T3 and T4 should show the relay contacts closing and opening.

There is no pulsing on T3 and T4 But like you said on the 58th minute the one relay does one click and holds it for a while then lets it go....must have something wired wrong...

Which relay does one click and holds for a while? Is that SK2?

SK1 does the one click and hold thing.l SK2 does not do a thing. I tired a diferent relay in SK2 but nothing.

A steady video of what you've got working currently would be helpful.

Is the Latham master still programmed for slave type AR-3?

When programmed for secondary mode 17, as per the following page from the manual SK2 should be controlling the minute hand reset function via terminals T3 and T4 (ignore the 48volt business; as mentioned in my early posts in this thread, that wiring configuration does not make sense in the AR-3 context).

MY question is lets say the slave clock gets put in at 6:34 but the real time the master clock is saying is 11:23. How can the slave clock get to the right time? I thought at a time of the day the master clock does a reset or something like that. The slave still is working. it just would be at the wrong time.

I had a Uncle die last Sunday so I will have to do some things outside of this for a while. but I will get a video done soon.

I don't know how to manually set a slave's initial time. That's more a question for the various clock expert sites that were mentioned in the early posts in this thread. Alternatively, you could send a PM to CT707.

Sorry to hear. Get back to us with the video when you are able.

Here are some new videos of the setup
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH9J2nTnIf8 (master clock and its new wireing)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA7o6d00 ... el&list=UL (working slave clock)

From the more reading I did. it looks like this setup will not set the slave clocks to the right time of the master clock... But it is working !!!

Thank you for the help gtc

It's great to see the minute hand advancing. You're nearly there.

My reading of the Latham manual is that it will drive an AR-3 slave in mode 17 although, as CT707 and I have mentioned, the associated wiring diagram is not correct.

I can't quite make out from the video how you have it wired but I believe this is how it should be wired:

According to the manual, SK2 should definitely be controlling the reset function. If SK2 is not functioning, then we have a few possibilities:

* Faulty relay (that can be checked by testing the relay -- and the spare ones -- independently on the bench with meter)

* Faulty relay driver circuitry (requires skill with measuring and diagnosing PCB circuits)

* Latham mode 17 program not functioning as documented

BTW: What is the function of the small toggle switch above SK2? Is that power on/off for the master?

If you want I can make a new video?

Yes toggle switch turns off the master clock.

I think I don't have mine wired up like you have in that pic there. I will have to check in the morning.

No need for a new video, just yet.

Now that you have a 24v DC source, it would be useful to confirm that the AR-3 slave is fully functional. We can see that the minute function works, but also try the reset function by first manually pulsing the minute hand to around the 58 minute position by momentarily attaching a wire from the positive of the DC supply to the "M" terminal (while the negative, or common, remains wired to the "C" terminal), and then temporarily holding that wire from the positive of the DC supply to the "R" terminal (also while the negative remains wired to the "C" terminal).

Essentially, that's emulating what relays SK1 and SK2 should be doing.

Let us know what happens when you do that.

Just to wrap up this thread, TonSpa reports that, having sorted out the master clock question, he then found that the AR-3 slave clock was faulty. He sourced the parts to fix that and now has a working system working system.

So he's off to find some more slave clocks.

As Sgt Preston of the Yukon would say, "Well King, this case is closed".

Did not think about this thread. But like GTC said all is well for me now.

Now the hunt for more slave clocks.......heck a few more master clocks would be fun also!!
