On the topic of Noisy Neighbors where Peter mentioned his taxes, lets take a survey of how much real estate taxes we all pay since we have members here in every state and almost every country. Include some information like the size of your house, size of your property, location, etc. Lets keep politics out of it, just numbers. Lets try not to have this survey locked because of politics.

5 acres on the top of the highest hill in over 20 miles and at the end of a dead end road.

Tax last year $7881 which includes a scenic views premium. Appraised at $470K 2 years ago. However there is no state income tax or sales tax. Auto and home insurance is low.

Location is Southern NH, borders MA, and 30 miles to Boston so its a desirable commuters town with a 1A minimum lot size, around 30 square miles area, and a population of only 12K last census.

Not going to post a number but rather the formula for California. In California property tax is 1% of the price paid and can increase 2% a year. Bond issues can cause a tax increase up to 2% of property value.

Tax rates are low but property values high. A person buying a $500,000 home would pay $5000 a year plus bond issues which could be up to $5000 more.

A 2000 square foot house on a 1/4 acre, property tax last year was $1400, no school taxes here. This is higher than some neighboring counties. They reassessed our end of the county a few months ago and with the real estate crash since the last assessment it looks like my taxes will be a good deal lower this year.

My PT is $3900 a year on a (1988) 2000 sq.ft.,
$270K House. Circular .33 acre, southwest hills, Eugene,OR.
No sales tax. Auto ($75 Mo.) and home insurance ($39 Mo.) is low.
Virtually Zero Crime in my neighborhood.
(one burglary- Not me, in 11 years.)

PA - 2400 sq/ft. $4000 annual school/property tax. No age break here.

Central NJ here; I can't remember the square footage but I'm in a 4 bedroom home (2 average sized bedrooms downstairs, 2 small bedrooms upstairs). There's also a small full bath upstairs in addition to the downstairs one. The lot is 100x200. Taxes are $5,100 annually.

1425 square foot on 3/4 acre lot w/appraised value around $65k = $845 all inclusive. Our town is podunct...a $100,000 house would be the finest in town..

2000 square foot home,separate 3 car garage ,barn,large shop building on 60 acres. Located halfway between Memphis and Nashville. Total real estate taxes $678 annual. Not expensive to live in paradise.

About 2600 sq ft, barn, 2/3 acre, 2 blocks from a town beach, just over $4000. No complaints whatever.
