An Audio Digest tape on Malaria begins : ...forces deployed in Viet Nam...and is dated August 1968. The lecturers
are Majors at Walter Reed and describe what they found in troops at 85th Evacuation Hospital (Qui Nhon, Phu Bai.

Audio Digest foundation states the lecturers maintain copyright of the materials they present. Given the
date and circumstances is there any copyright attached to the voice program ?

Yes Audio Digest foundation has most likely kept a copyright on it.

I'd wonder those lecturers are even still alive. I assume the copywrights
pass to their heirs?

Looked at this and thought the name of that city (hamlet town or whatever you want to call it) rang a bell. Went and looked at my map of Nam and the places i was at. This was one of them. Had nothing to do with any hospital but just thought it was interesting to see something from my past.

The material is still under copyright protection. The copyright act that was passed in 1978 allowed works created before then and currently under protection to have a copyright guarantee of the author's life PLUS 70 years, at the minimum.

Sorry. :)

I think that was superseded by the Millennium copy right ??

I deal with this stuff all the time at work. The answer is yes, the copyright can still be in effect. Does that mean you can't copy it? No, permission just needs to be granted and would likely be easily done with e-mail correspondence or a call to Audio Digest.

If you make a copy for just your own use it's legal, but if you wanted to copy the tape to sell it, or play it for public performance it would be in violation of copyright laws.

You could look the material in question up at the US Copyright Office website and see if it is actually registered, copyrighted material. They have a searchable database on their website.

I played that part again. The speaker was Major Robert E ((B l o n t )) Junior and he said experiences
at 85th Evac hospital ... at ((Q u i n )) ((Y o n g )) (( ..... ))S.V.N.

(( )) that's what I got phonetically , so I looked up 85th evac unit on the net.

The tape seems to be on tropical mediciane but has no label except a volume number and tape number. It
was among a huge lot of I hauled out yesaterday. I just reached in at random and pulled out one of the
these that had no program sticker like another bunch did.
