Another find for me - a Jewell Pattern 444 Radio Set Analyzer.

Inside were a few tubes - a WE / Tung Sol 717A / VT-269 and four photocell jobbies - an RCA 923, a CETRON CE-23-C, an RCA 868 and an RCA 927.

Plus one test lead and three odd little things - I wonder if they're tiny transformers or chokes? They have SCA embosses on one face and what looks like GB printed on another.

I have purchased several radios in the last few weeks but my best "find" was this little girl:

Image

"Ginger" is the one on the right. She is a Dachshund mix (mostly Dachshund and about 1/8th another breed of some sort) and she is the best "find" I have found in a while. She is 6 years old and has a blind "dry" eye that needs a lot of care and cleaning throughout the day. She was on the last 24 hours of her short little life at a nearby shelter. She had been there too long and they were going to put her down. Seems no one wanted this little girl or her bad eye, no one wanted to deal with any of the semi-constant upkeep. In steps me (old softy) and says: "Yep, I'll take her" , best move I have made in a long time. They tried to warn me saying that she needed a lot of attention and special care to which I say: "Yea, don't we all"

She is a wonderful little dog and very good natured. She gets along with my 6 year old Dachshund Sophie (on the left) like they were life long litter mates. I feel fortunate that I found her and grateful that the shelter waited yet one more day before giving up on this little girl.

Pair of 'antique' traffic bulbs, bought from a thrift store for $1.
Heavy duty glass, short stem and 5 filament supports. Rated 8,000 hrs @ 125 volts. Why can't we buy this knd of quality in stores?

You have to buy ceiling fan bulbs now just to get the 'pentagon' filament like all gen. purpose bulbs used to have....

Sylvania Sylouette. I've wanted one for a long time. $30 on where else, Craigslist, but $75 in fuel and
13 hours to go get it and back. It's really nice. Hope the CRT is OK. At that price, I didn't even test it.

That is quite a wonderful thing you did. Which Ginger will pay you back for a 1000 times over.

Never having seen one before, it has that same type of impact as when I first saw a Predicta. I can see why you desired it. Too cool for words.

+1 Bruce,
I really love the look of that set,
I have never seen one before and I really love it.
Not much into TV's (although I do have a few Predicta's)
I just don't understand them and don't want to try but....that one looks great

way Kool

Believe it or not I went to a church sale last summer and in the back was a case of those exact same bulbs. There was around 10 boxes, each with 2 bulbs. So about 20 in all. Got em' all for $2. I put them in the lamps around the house. None have burnt out. I guess I must now have a lifetime worth of light bulbs because these things will probably last forever.

I don't doubt it, especially if your line voltage is in the range of 115-120. They'll probably last you at least 10 years. I believe the life hours on these bulbs is calculated in absolute time, since they cycle hundreds of times per day, 24/7.

My Hallicrafters CR-44 showed up today. Seems to be in good shape but would not turn on or tune freqs. Upon further inspection the batteries were still in it. The 2 metal ends of the battery compartment were bent out. My thoughts were the radio got knocked around some in shipment and the weight of the 4 D's beat the ends making them wide and losing contact. So I bent them back and the radio came on. Discovered it wouldnt tune a freq. Upon further looking I think the metal chassis on the end also got tweaked and it popped the dial string. Radio works fine now it just needs a new dial string. Need to find a place to get dial string for it. Did manage to turn it to my local AM station so I can at least use it a little bit. Very heavy radio!

Cute little pair of ankle biters. Strays and rescues always make the best pets. They seem to know how lucky they are.
