Thanks Scott. The connectors I think are 'N' type. I don't know any hams around here, since I'm only a rank amature at radio repair, it's one of those things that I've studied for a few decades but just can't get handle on it.

Well it rained overnight Thursday and Friday morning the remotes weren’t working still.
Good thing the hard wire still opens the gate.
I’m at a loss for what’s causing the problem. The coax looks solid and I can’t see any
breaks in the insulation. All but the antenna and a foot of the coax are housed inside the
main box and that appears to be dry in side.
By 10 AM it had dried out enough from the overnight rains and the remotes were working
again.
Any one know if those antennas are universal or are they special for the 312 Mhz
frequency that the system operates on???? I’ve only found one source on the net the sells
the antennas.
Thanks for your patience.

If length is same, I can't see the antenna as being overly finicky... For a temp measure I'd repl the coax, then cut the insulation and braid off the the outside end, leaving approx the same length of the center conductor exposed as antenna...

If the housing the receiver is mounted inside is plastic, I'd think the antenna could remain inside... As I stated earlier, the newer garage door openers use a piece of wire hanging out of the circuit board that works fine...

As a last resort you can install a replacement receiver/transmitter that is generally used to update garage door openers with obsolete remotes, I have a Sears branded kit on my mom's opener... They are sold at any of the larger stores...
