Seems to be an impossible task. People who appear in great health have strokes, heart attacks, seizures, etc. It's called life.

Not necessarily drunk. Two mornings this week, on the way to work I saw idiots driving aggressively. Yesterday I stopped at a light just as it turned red. The jerk behind me swerved into the left turn lane and blew through the light during the interval when both directions are red. He never even slowed down. This morning, in the same block, on the main street of town, a dimwit passed a truck tractor, traveling at the legal speed limit, on the right, on a wet road. Both must have found their licenses in a cereal box that morning.

There was a case of a fellow in diabetic shock who was pulled over for his erratic driving. The Henderson, NV police pulled him from the car and beat the hell out of him. Large lawsuit and the PD settled. Clearly the cops were wrong and now they are trained a little better to understand that all people who appear drunk, may not be. There are other health conditions that can replicate the symptoms.

It is a serious problem. I know years ago diabetics were put in jail, thinking they were drunks. Several died.

Wow. I'm actually very aware of the problems diabetics have, but I wouldn't expect to be encountering them on the road. Why would they let themselves drive, gambling with their own lives and others?

A few years ago at our local Friches' Drive Thru, somebody with diabetes who was not aloud to drive had an attack of some sort, passed out with his foot on the gas, and ended up running into (and eventually cutting in half) an older woman after pinning her up against the wall. Employees said that he was still on the gas several minutes after hitting her and you could hardly see outside due to the smoke from the tires.

Yep, road rage is another problem. I really do worry about the destiny of our species. Arrogant, anger, greed, etc.

Know what? Nick's description seems to me to be more like a well lubricated driver rather than one having a diabetic reaction.
Since there are more drunks behind the wheel than diabetics having reactions, I'd go with the drunk part.
And to that, I have an opinion that I am willing to spew to anyone who can't stop me. That is, even one drink before driving is one too many. The law allows so much before you aren't legally fit to drive. Usually .08%. But the first drink has its effect. Since most drivers are highly challenged to get the car safely down the road without drinking in the first place, one drink is one too many.
As with flying, where the rule is 0%, and the rule of thumb is "A drink within 8 (hours) seals your fate."
And airplanes really aren't any more difficult to control than an automobile. Other than the more dire effects resulting spatial disorientation that comes with the absorbing of alcohol into the cardiovascular system, that is.

I have never driven after drinking, so I guess it's all pretty easy for me to say. But I will drink after driving :-)

Where I live we have a big problem with drunk drivers.
I guess it's because of our close proximity to NYC.
At first I thought these drunks were mostly young
kids but I was shocked to find out most of these people
are in their late thirties to mid fifties. It's not just
at night either, alot of these people are tanked
in the middle of the day.At that age
these people should know better because the
young and stupid excuse no longer works for them.
We also have alot of people around here that
think a stop sign is just a suggestion.
Regards,
Swanson

There are still plenty of stupid drunk youngsters driving under the influence.
We had just gotten our new to us van, it was in pristine condition. Bruce was driving to the radio meet in Seaford LI April 1 on the LIE around 6 AM. A 2010 Porche driven by a 26 yr old kid slid along the side of the van denting it from the back bumper up to and including the driver's door. The kid bounced off the van and went into the median and wound up stopping in the left lane of the LIE Bruce had pulled over right and stopped on the shoulder and called 911. Luckily Bruce is ok and refused to even visit a doctor. He didn't even tell me about it till I saw the van that evening. We had only had the van 5 FIVE days and this was the first radio met he was taking it too. Well it seems the kid was heading home from the city after a night out. The kid refused a breathalyzer, but the cop found him under the influence of prescription drugs and arrested him. Since it is a van that we use for work I did not buy collision insurance, fortunately the kids insurance is taking care of having the body work done andrented another van for us to use. It is too bad that the van is still in the shop and Bruce will be using it for Brimfield. I just hope that we get our van back soon so that we can use it for Kutztown.
Another drunk driver story is when my son's car a 92 Toyota Celica was parked in Edgewater NJ when a Land Rover went into the back of it. The driver of the Land Rover didn't stop and kept going. The cops followed the trail of radiator fluid to where the Land Rover had stopped. The driver blew a .019 and was a NY MD. His insurance wound up giving us book value for the Celica.
Needless to say we do not drive when we have had even one drink.

Stan, I enjoy your humor. I really do! Too bad some people think it's serious and you have to post that disclaimer.

Thank you Mark. Can you imagine if i did not say it was a joke? I think i would have had all kind of ridiculous comments. Like you really had to take a bus home? Maybe you have a drinking problem and etc. Life is way to short to be so damn serious .
