Okay, this is the weekend that symbolizes the essence of Louisville. A bunch of famous people fawning over an excuse to legally gamble on an event that lasts two minutes.

The whole racing industry is built on forcing horses to out run each other for the entertainment of a few fanatics. I forgot to add: -multi-million dollar industry. Why not add some chariots to make it even more ridiculous?

Is Louisville known for music, or creative arts, or dance?
No- a horse race.

And-
Don't forget the state's obsession with college sports that are more like professional sports. A U of L basketball game vs U of K whips normal people into a frenzy that is obscene.

Sorry- "all things considered I'd rather be in Philadelphia" W. C. Fields

When I lived in Louisville (on Third St), I had to leave town every derby day ... they restricted parking so much there was no place to put my car.

Derby time is always nice around the office (I work in Louisville). All of my bosses leave real early on Friday to go to Oaks, which is fine by me! I would say less than half of the staff in my office where still at work after lunch today.

I personally could care less about the Derby. My girlfriend wants to watch it, so two minutes of television shouldn't be too bad..right??

Curly in Disorder in the Court: "Fernacula? That's a doiby."

Garry Moore's second banana Durward Kirby tried to sue the producers of Bullwinkle for their spoof of his name Kurward Derby. He lost.

Leave it to network television to make an hour show out of a 2-minute event.

Glad I'm not a horse.
