I drove my mom's nice 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland to school today. My dad was out turkey hunting with his friend early in the AM and my mom just told me to take the truck. I get there, safe and sound. At around 1-2PM I get out of class and 20 people come up to me in the halls saying my truck's dented big time! (Word travels fast in this school of 300 kids ). I go to the office, they walk me outside to the truck and I don't see anything wrong with it. Then I look closer and see a crease in the tail gate, and a crack in the amber lens. Turns out some kid took another kids parking space. The kid was upset and punched a huge dent in the kids car. The kid with the dented car gets P/Oed and throws a full bottle of Brisk iced tea down the street, aiming at the kids car who did the original damage. Needless to say, missed, bounced off the ground and hit the tail gate and rear light lens of my truck. When I met up with the kid and some admin of the school, we came to the conclusion that no way could a little bottle of tea bounce up and hit the truck. Later I find out it's a full liter sized bottle......................... The kid admitted to me that he threw the bottle. 20 kids came up to me in the hall saying they saw it bounce off the pavement, but when I asked where it hit the truck I just got shrugs from everyone. I brought the truck home after school, my parents are not happy. I should have made a police report then, but I was giving the kid the benefit of doubt and didn't want to cause a commotion (too late, the entire school was peaking out of the classroom windows waving ). We called the troopers and one should be here soon. The kid has a track record with tickets and anger problems. I just hope not filing a report right away won't louse me up. The dent and crack are not that bad, but noticeable for sure. What irks me the most is the pure stupidity of some people..................I'll keep you guys posted on what happens. I had to run the physical fitness test mile today, this happens, I'm missing my tennis match, and I have SATs tomorrow.

Trooper came up to the house. He was a pretty cool guy. Definitely on our side, I'd say. We have to promptly get an estimate on the damage and send the bill to the trooper, who will send it on to this kid. I hope things go smoothly. Supposedly the kid who punched in the kids fender was in a car with a friend, rolled down the window and *SMASH*. The trooper said the two will have a lot of explaining to do, possibly arrests.
It just boggles my mind sometimes the things people do, like, WHY?

I have always figured that life is all about choices and consequences. What you chose is what you get in return!! Sorry to hear about your truck and hang in there!!

Cars have become too expensive to take out in public. I leave my good car at home and drive around in my beater pickup.

I spent a short time in Upstate NY and the people who could afford it had a "winter rat," because of the atrocious use of salt in the winter. Out west you don't have the rust problem.

I have a 1974 Mercury Montego for a "nice" car, 1977 Ford F-150 beater. Salt doesn't work that great anyway, it melts then freezes back at night

Well you guys don't know my mom . She won't drive anything less, at this point in her life anyway. Which is understandable. This is our first NICE truck. We wash it once a week during the winter, and many times during the summer. Still looks like new. The rust on the underside isn't bad at all, surprisingly. I think my dad mentioned spraying oil under there or something to prevent rust? Update: Trooper had the kid's mom call us, they're willing to pay for the damage. I just hope the estimate is reasonable, and if not that they're willing to cooperate further.

Well it's bad luck, but at least the kid had the cojones to admit he did it, gotta give him credit for that. If his parents are willing to pay, it looks like everything will work out. If your shopping for estimates, my mother had good luck with DentsUnbent, who were recommended by the Toyota dealership (I'm almost positive it was Empire in Oneonta). It wasn't a big dent, they didn't have to repaint anything, and they came to the dealership to do the work. It was just under $70 (6 years ago dollars, but still cheap). I wouldn't sweat it, these things happen. I had a friend in high school, who, after several impressive (reverse to drive) burnouts in the highschool parking lot, had to explain to his parents why the car wouldn't shift. Now that was embarrassing.
