Went to a local antique store with a friend today. I had my radio radar on, not much. What I did find along the lines of radios was nothing special, and very expensive ($150-200 each). I saw a whole area of fans and heaters (for Nick D.)
One thing I found interesting was this old metal "record player", it seems as though it's a toy? Or maybe not. Anyone see one of these before?

I also spotted these two industrial lights with big filament bulbs (which reminds me I want to get an old tube like light bulb and make like some sort of radio looking lamp, sounds crazy I know, but could come out neat).

Oh and some HUGE taxidermy.

:D

Those are 'plug and play' prices with a little embellishment. Most collectors would be running out of that shop once they saw that booth. The heater on the red shelf is the only thing that has my interest.............

Those lamps are cobbled trash. Maybe $10 in parts, but I bet they're priced five times that.

Looks like most of their stuff is priced at about 3x to 4x its real value.

These are the places i walk into and walk out laughing . Totally trying to rip people off. You can go back in 6 months and the same stuff is there. How do they make a living doing this? It sure is not on volume.

I didn't catch a make on the bakelite radio. Didn't interest me enough I suppose. i didn't see much writing other than numbers on the dial.
This place is insane, I was in there around Christmas time and bought an Atwaterkent 711 for $216 out the door. Now this was worth it. The atwater is in beautiful condition, beautiful complete chassis, speaker, everything. It's the model with the double doors. There's an airline console that I was looking at as well in December. I believe it was $165, I go back today 5 months later, still there at $175 LOL.

Some things are reasonable, but not a whole lot. Surprisingly in 5 months time, there seemed to be some new inventory, but a lot still there.

This is why antique stores tick me off. Everyone knows what they have now...if it's old, they think $$$$$$$.

Yes, I walked out laughing. My friend took my picture with the buffalo and we left

The first radio is a little rare, a GLF model developed for rural areas to receive FM. I had one once but sold it. I would pay $50 for one like that in nice condition.

Here is a 1946 Phillips CM22L that I sold off awhile ago. Although it is not exactly the same the silimilarities are obvious. I wonder if these were branded under different names?

 I can hear it now "all those heads, all those heads what cha gonna do with all those heads on that wall on that wall?"
Anyway I like antique stores but many times they are way out of my price range. I have had better luck with second hand stores. I did pass on a piece years ago I wish I had bought. I saw a rubber piece for a desk made by RCA. It was stamped with RCA and I don't remember what it was for. It was 12 bucks. I would give it now but they probably would ask 5o today. I have got a lot of radio stuff from second hand and "junk " stores. There use to be one junk store and it was labeled that. I couldn't buy anything from them, They were even higher than some antique stores. One time they had a worn out and nonworking jukebox back in the 80s. I had bought one for 40 bucks from the late 30s. Another one I traded some stuff to. They were asking close to a grand for it. At the time I worked on jukeboxes for a time and they sold similar ones working for 200 to 400. So you can't always go by what the place is called. One time I bought a original 20s cats whisker radio for 3 bucks at a antique store. Sometimes like on your AK you can get something and others its bust. Thats part of the fun of the hunt.

Just like the guy selling ten thousand dollar watermelons across the road from the guy selling them for a dollar each; all he had to do was sell ONE.

Antique store I was in yesterday had some dime a dozen red Columbia label Gene Autry 78's in rough shape for $5/each. I really did laugh out loud. Prices depend, of course, on the booth dealer. Large store west of Wichita has one booth I head straight to with fair prices on radios and other "mantiques".
