It has been one and a half weeks from surgery to put in my new metal and plastic knee. I am so surprised with the small amount of pain I have had to this point and most of that is coming from soft tissue damage to the thy mussels and ligaments where things were stretched out of the way and the leg being clamped down with a pneumatic tournicate to stop blood flow during surgery. They had me standing on that leg as soon as I woke up and could follow orders. The physical therapy sessions are mostly to bring back flexibility strength to the thy muscles and ligaments. Now that does hurt a bit but it isn't much compared to the years of knee joint pain. Ed

Glad to hear you're doing well!
I'm going to have to do this a few years down the road, unfortunately. I had arthroscopic surgery about two years ago, but the meniscus was too far gone and all they could do was trim it up. Zero pain now, but the doc said it won't last.

Did they put you on the continuous motion machine? My wife had her knee joint replaced a couple of years ago and she had to be on it for about 16-18 hours out of every 24 for about 2 weeks.

No continuous motion machine here, just a set of exeursises to do every few hours along with lots of ice, so far so good. I see my doc tomorrow and we will see how I'm doing. Ed

Ed, it is a big deal!! At least to anyone who lives in kneed pain 24/7, I know!!! Glad to hear its getting better and better each day. Can I offer you a piece of educated advice? Don't skip on the exercies, they are a very important part of your recovery and how well you will do in the future! FYI. I am a volunter and health educator with the Arthritis Foundation. Keep up the great job!!!

Some people told me that they can't immagin sonething more painful than knee replacment. It has been 2 1/2 weeks and I'm surprised by how fast I am recovering. I don't use any walking aids save for the really long set of hallways to get to the clinics. I can now go from straight to a 90 degree bend with out to much trouble except for swelling in my thigh. I'm wondering though if I am really lucky and the next one if going to hurt like hell. Ed
