Greetings to the Forum and the Moderators:

I have a Gonset Communicator 1 that is in need of an eye tube (6E5). I checked the classifieds yesterday evening and there were no adds for such. I checked the adds again 24 hours later and I find that a hoarder has purchased a lot of 5 tubes including 3 6E5's with a posting dated at 12 MINUTES after the original ad posting. Those of us who really need the parts have to pay flipper prices or hope to beat the hoarders to the net... not something that is easy to do for people who actually have a life.

Some time ago, I posted an alternative sales technique which essentially awarded the right of first refusal not to the first person to jump on the ad, but selected randomly from the potential purchasers.

I hereby request permission from the Forum to institute this procedure for any item which I wish to sell in the Forum classifieds, and I further request that anyone else who wishes to use a similar technique be granted permission also.

I see no other way to give the average guy an even chance against the hoarders.

Sincerely,
James K. Thorusen

You should have posted a wanted to buy in the classified forum.

I also have a request to change Forum Classified Rules:

From this moment forward, I request that all forum users be delegated to the back of the line on all postings of FS (for sale) items in the Classified section, and you are not allowed to claim any items I may want (that means all of them). You are to give me (Johnnysan) first dibs on everything; if I don't buy it after a couple of days, you can do as you please. Also, if I don't have the money, all sellers are instructed to accept an IOU from me (I'll pay when I feel like it). NO exceptions to this new rule, and no debate about it either.

Thank you for your co-operation.

This has been covered several times before. Just like a swap meet, someone may buy what you want before you get there. That's the way it works. If you don't like the process, then don't use it.

How about a slight modification to the roolz, allowing sellers to specify that the items posted for sale are only available to them that have at least one post in the technical forums, made before the sales post? That would at least give an even chance to the true radio buffs, and not the flippers who troll this site looking for eBay fodder.

[quoteLot of 5-Eye Tubes. 4 of these I tested a few years ago and they were all strong. I set aside the weaker ones. One 6E5 either wasn't tested or the label I made fell off. Includes: 3- 6E5 tubes w/ 1-untested, 1-6U5 base a little loose, 1-6AB5 tube.
I am asking $20 for all w/ free conus shipping[/quote]
I looked up the post. They were offered as a lot, not individually, and sold as offered. The only complaint is that someone bought them before you happened to see them. Buying anything in the Classified section doesn't automatically make you an eBay flipper.

If they do show up there, you'll have another chance to buy.

This is the best rule, except delete (Johnnysan) and insert (kc5gym)
Also if items were purchased "out from under me" they must be forfeited to me free of charge.
I too, wanted the eye tubes, also the pile of diddle sticks that I missed

Seriously, folks, the rules are just fine as-is.

6E5's are still plentiful elsewhere: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=6 ... e&_sacat=0

Life is too short to get worked up over missing out on one deal. I hoard certain parts because I know that I will eventually need them for a repair. I don't feel guilty about it nor have I deprived anyone else because they can always buy the same parts somewhere else.

If there's something specific you're looking for, post a want ad. I've done that several times in the classifieds and it's always worked.

+1 on Toms statement. We've all missed some part we wanted or needed. It's a roll of the dice.
WTB works. Some times there are no replies, but most times there is some one here that has an
extra and what they want for it is very fare. On small items, they won't even except the shipping fee.
Right now the classified rules are simple and I vote for NO CHANGE.

Freeman.

Jthorusen, I agree. The hoarders disgust me too. But what I have had success with a few
times here on ARF is contacting the "I'LL TAKE IT" guy directly via PM and asking if he'd sell
me what I need.

It's not possible (or at least as easy) anymore to do that on eBay. Back in the days when eBay
(in my opinion) was still decent, I was able to do that, too. But not so much anymore which is one of
many, many reasons as to why I avoid eBay.

+1!

Subscribe to the Classifieds so your device gets a notice of a posting, then jump on it...

Sit by your computer and constantly refresh the Classifieds.

Hmm, I wonder if that consumes server bandwidth?

Go shopping else where.

I'm with Johnnysan with one small change. After Johnnysan's refusal all offers go next to me for purchase or refusal. No exceptions.

Well if you can't beat them , join them. I think I will set my smart phone to monitor the classifieds and notify me when something comes up for sale. I can flip the goods on ebay and buy more radios, another car, or a new boat. Who cares if other forum members get left in the dust. Like Alan said "If you don't like it don't use it" The dog eat dog philosophy has taken over ARF. This is no longer the forum of 10 years ago.

Jim, while I don't really agree with your take on this, I'd be happy to send you a good 6E5 for the cost of shipping if you want to PM me with your address.
