Wisconsin Antique Radio Club Madison Chapter Swap Meet

WHEN: April 23, 2017 @ 8:30 am – 11:00 am

WHERE: 3610 Lexington Ave., Madison, WI 53714

http://warci.org/

Street parking is available. There is no charge for admission!

The Gate opens for sellers at 8:15 AM for setup, and 8:30 AM for the general public. The swap will end by 11:00AM. This will be an indoor/outdoor meet with limited indoor space. Indoor space is limited to 2 tables (or equivalent space) per seller. Swap spaces are $7 for WARCI members and $10 for non-members. Limited indoor space is available at this meet and will be allotted at WARCI's discretion. Outdoor space is also available, but tables are not provided. Please bring your own tarp or table(s), or sell out of your trunk!

As typical of most swap meets, the items are for sale by individual collectors, and most are one-of-a-kind. So for best selection (and the best deals), BE EARLY! But please stay around and get to meet some of the club members. These swap meets are a great way to connect with other local collectors that share your interests. By socializing at the meets you can find others that may have what you are looking for, radios & parts, people that can service your radios, and you can make some good friends.

For breakfast, WARCI recommends the Fair Oaks Diner, at 44 South Fair Oaks Avenue. To get to the diner from the meet, head West on Lexington Avenue until you reach Fair Oaks Avenue, then turn left. The diner is 0.9mi down the road on the right.

WARCI is proud to offer our members and guests the largest number of club events of any Midwest area antique radio club. This year we offer 9 swap events on our schedule. The remaining WARCI event calendar for 2017 is shown below.

Is there anyone who lives in or travels in the area frequently that can give an out of towner an idea as to how bad the construction is on US151 near Sun Prairie? ie, how many miles it covers roughly, how slow going it is to navigate through? Just to plan how much earlier I need to leave to get there by 8:30. It's a 70 mile drive from here, and I was going to leave at 6:30. Thanks.

I live about 110 miles NE of the swap meet, not sure of what direction you would be coming from. Usually Google Maps will give you a time estimate that does take into account traffic and construction when you look for directions.

Hi Jim....it's WARCI member Greg from West Bend...the guy with the Coronado 32 volt farm radio in the past few newsletters. So I'm heading southwest to Madison. Basically 151 all the way....a straight shot. I heard there was quite a bit of construction on it near Sun Prairie and was just curious if it slows to a crawl in one lane traffic or if it's smooth sailing. The Google and MapQuest maps both give the same ETA...and both indicate the construction area in the same place...so hopefully I can make the 70 miles in 2 hours without problems. See you there!

Ah yes, Greg. I'll have to start associating your forum name with you. WARCI has lots of members here and on Videokarma.org. I may have to make a spreadsheet we all can use to identify each other.

I had a some questions for you on the article in the March/April newsletter. I'll have to talk with you Sunday about it. Remind me if I forget.

I don't think you'll have any trouble getting to the event. Likely the construction is shut down for the weekend anyway. Looks like it will be cool, dry, and sunny. Great for an outdoor meet!

BTW, welcome to ARF!

Thanks for the welcome, Jim. I've been on the Philco Phorum for years under the same name and always meant to join up here. Finally got around to it :) Incidentally I copied and pasted your post about this meet (and the other meets) to their site as well. Hope for a good turn out! Going to bring the '67 Dodge out?

That's tempting, I miss driving that thing.

Unfortunately the trunk is shallow, not leaving enough room to haul the 15U269 Zenith console I'm hoping to sell this week.

If it doesn't sell in Madison, it's going down to the Cedar Rapids radio auction next week, hoping for a quick cash deal in the parking lot. I'm also going to the Illinois ARCI meet on the way back from Iowa. Then the week after that, I'm off to the Early TV convention in Ohio.

I love this time of year, always something to do most every weekend!

That's a nice Zenith shutter dial. Width and length-wise I bet it would fit in the trunk of your Dodge. But, as you said, too shallow. It would probably sit too high laying on it's back for you to close the lid. I remember looking at it at the March meet. Think you had an eBay listing printed out for one with it that either sold at or was offered for $1800. I certainly don't need another big console, but (if it's not against the rules to post here) what are you looking to get for it? I know shutter dials don't come cheap...but I also might know someone who may be interested in it...as Johnny Olson used to say..."if the price is right!"

Hello Everyone! I'm looking forward to tomorrow's meet. The weather is looking to be great - weather.com is reporting tomorrow's forecast as sunny with 2mph wind and a high of 70 degrees! You can't ask for better weather for a swap meet in Wisconsin in April! It'll be 48 degrees at 8AM, so bring a light jacket.

I'll be at the gate collecting seller's fees before the 8:30AM opening time. I will also be bringing some free Dunkin Donuts coffee for those of you who require a little caffeine in the morning.

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Nick

Photos are now up for the April meet:

http://warci.org/april-23rd-2017-meeting-photos/

The meet was a huge success - in part thanks to the GREAT weather! We had 23 sellers and over 90 in attendance. Thanks to everyone who showed up to make this meet a success. I look forward to returning to Madison in August!

Nope, still available for anyone interested.

Can deliver to the Iowa auction Saturday, Carol Stream Illinois Sunday, or to the Ohio TV convention next week.
